If your hiring manager is making decisions based on whether or not a candidate went to an FBS school, I think you have a problem.

You’re misunderstanding my metaphor. They aren’t hiring the candidate because his alma mater plays FBS football. Nowadays Boise State has a national reputation so someone on the other side of the country has heard of them and knows they are a good school whereas before their recent athletic success, someone on the other side of the country would have no idea what Boise State is. Like it or not, having a degree from Boise State stands out much more than it did before they played on a National stage.

Not to a competent hiring manager. Boise's academics are nothing special. Nothing in a Boise resume, based on school alone, will matter one bit in Texas. Maybe provide a little interview chatter, but that's it.
