If the bolded statement were true, then we should include all of Division I in a post season tournament to determine a national champion. But the FBS was a subdivision created by the NCAA for the express purpose of having a group of schools that will NOT have an NCAA championship tournament.

These are schools who prefer to participate in bowl games instead. Every school in the FBS made that choice voluntarily and willingly. They did so because they felt that it was in their self interest to do so. They were not coerced in any way, despite the labored analogies that would paint the P5 in the role of the Mafia.

G5 clowns who whine about the lack of a playoff with their conference champ included don't seem to mind that the MEAC and other FCS conferences would be excluded, even though they are all included in the NCAA hoops tournament.

FBS was never created with a playoff among FBS schools/conferences in mind, so there is no natural, moral, or competitive sense in which it is a "league" that should have its own playoff with auto-entry from all conferences.

FCS teams are not not eligible for bowls---which is essentially the FBS post season. G5's ARE eligible for bowls (just like the SEC). Why on earth would any thinking person believe that another subdivision would be eligible for the FBS playoff? You're not making any sense whatsoever. My MEAC point would be off-target, if i was suggesting that FCS conferences be eligible to play in bowls, like the Outback Bowl or Liberty Bowl. Because the FCS/FBS divide is and always has been all about bowls.

But for a discussion of playoffs, it's entirely relevant, and it kills your and other's claims about the necessity of a playoff among FBS conferences only, because FBS/FCS has never been about playoffs.

FBS is and never has been a moral or natural "league" such that it makes logical or competitive sense for their to be a systematic, all-inclusive playoff to determine the champion of that subdivision. It is a subdivision that exists solely for those schools that want to play bowl games, that's all it has ever been. So while if FBS schools want to form playoffs, like the CFP, they can do that, there is no moral or logical necessity about the format, that it give all schools and conferences the same chance, etc. Analogies to the NFL, NBA, etc. are thus completely inapplicable.

As a VT fan said a while back: Imagine if a city like Rochester, NY could put together a football team, average 15,000 fans for two years playing whomever while having at least 70 paid players on its roster, and then announce to the NFL "here we are! We're a pro football team, so you gotta give us a path to the playoffs and the Super Bowl!"

That's basically what the "FBS is a league" argument comes down to.
