No question, big upsets can happen. That's why we play the games. But, you have to cut stuff off somewhere, otherwise why not have Michigan play a Friday Night Tykes team in a playoff on the same grounds?

Sure, that's an absurdly extreme example. But, point is, if you're the best P5, you're almost surely the best college football team, by a high enough chance that it's safe to assume it. Maybe once in 100 years, or 150 years, it won't be true.

That's not necessarily the case in hoops.
