I think the peak of the live sports trend was in 2008-2010. A peak which triggered realignment for these huge P5 TV packages. For a limited number of schools this era was a huge success.

In the 90's studio TV began to get very expensive to produce. Think how much the stars of Seinfeld were getting paid. In response executives pushed reality TV and live sports to reduce production costs, a growing trend at the time.

This decade, particularly the last few years the trend is about streaming. Original content from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, Showtime ect. is what people talk about. House of Cards. Game of Thrones. There is still a need to entertain/be entertained on Friday/Saturday night.

What a lot of people are now trying to determine is what the optimal content level is. There is a lot of confusion in the marketplace over where to go. Do you invest in home internet or mobile hotspotting? Mobile devices take less data and its almost mandatory to have a phone. What is the best way to handle internet TV? Can you get by with a Netflix account?

We are still very much in a very big flux period when it comes to sports media. A lot of changes are on the way.
