I'm not willing to call it dead. MW was one of a few conferences Gonzaga was working with; one with details.

We'll find out in a few days what Gonzaga's going to do. If these WCC changes were exactly what Gonzaga wanted, there would be more out of the Gonzaga camp about how happy or satisfied it was with these changes.

Leaning toward but not having made a decision is not something worth breaking out the champagne.

Clearly, this is more serious than folks want to make it. The narrative isn't about making the WCC better as a whole. The kind of talk and outcomes Gonzaga has placed on the WCC is an indictment against its non-performing members. Gonzaga has charged the WCC with lousy, non-contributing basketball schools. Gonzaga has threatened the conference that it would leave if the bylaws and rules weren't changed to reward its best performer(s). And while the WCC has given Gonzaga some/many concessions, the real question still remains: do these changes make the WCC more competitive? Is this a game changer that inspires others to rise to Gonzaga's level?

And ask yourself...if you're Santa Clara, Portland, or LMU, and you're taking an even smaller cut now...are you going to invest even more into your program to get to a better share? The bad teams get punished a bit, in theory...they aren't coming away empty-handed, though.
