If the best team in the conference losses to the fifth best team in the conference who goes on to win their tournament they should be rewarded. And let's just say that team has a 10 loss record and came on strong late in the season. That gives teams an actual chance to improve as the season goes on. But the worst team in the conference should not be given the chance to play for a bid IMO.

If you have a 12 team conference invite the top 6 teams. All six of them should in theory at least be .500 or better.

Big Sky used to do that, but went away from that.

One of the things that makes March Madness so special is 340+ teams have a chance (however unlikely) to win the NC if they go on a streak.
