And that provides an opening for the Democrats. The bet is that McDaniel and the Democrat will advance to a December runoff and that race will be decided by a smaller electorate which can be swayed more easily in the GOP's favor. Didn't work out that way in Alabama.

Do I think the Dems take it? No, but it provides another opportunity for the Dems to pick up a seat that is far more likely than beating Wicker.

Basically, in these heavily Red districts, its all about matchups. Have the GOP nominate an awful candidate, have the Dems nominate a good one, and hope for some luck. McDaniel makes this seat possible for the Dems and might draw in a Dem that could possibly win, like Presley. McDaniel v Presley would be a race that might look very interesting.
