Who is stuck? The boosters have the wad to do it, or they would never sign up for it. It's not like the school is paying the salaries and buyouts.

This is the issue, people think that just cause the boosters are paying means that there is no cost. Essentially, this buyout would have an effect on the program for years. It hurts your ability to fundraise for other assets/coaches/budgets, i.e. it is not free, there is collateral damage. I am sure Memphis would love to have that $9mm to invest in other things instead of Tubby's retirement fund.

So what happens if Penny does not work out, do the boosters just come up with another $5-10mm to buy him out.....is the pile of money endless?

As an outsider I don't really see Tubby working out but the combination of this public shaming and the buyout is rough news for the proud Memphis Bball program.

The revenue a Penny hire will generate will make up a lot of that money. We'll go from 4000 to 16,000 in the building and I suspect we'll get a bump from Nike considering his shoes are still one of their top sellers.
