But he could also end up being Frank Martin 2.0. Martin was only hired by K-State to try and salvage a top-10 recruiting class after Bob Huggins left for WV, and he ended up becoming one of their most successful coaches ever.

I'm still bitter over John Currie running Frank Martin out of Manhattan ....

Thats just it though. They SHOULDNT have to take that risk. Isn't Memphis a good enough job to get a proven, successful and current D1 coach as a replacement? Maybe it isn't the kind of job I thought it was.

or the potential upside is that high..

a flip side of your argument is that memphis is about to fire a hall of fame coach year 2 into tenure, despite likely producing 20 wins and a projected better team for the following year

that statement is a indication of the standard they want at memphis ...nd the kind of job memphis is...

elite programs take risks....kentucky hired cal knowing he was under investigation ... risk is not sign of a lesser program..IMO Willingness to abandon something good is bigger sign

But Cal had at least proven to be able to coach a little. This is a different type of risk. Again, Memphis must not be the job I thought they were if this is the best they can do. Feels a little knee jerk to me.

again do you realize they are firing a hall of fame national championship coach simply for not being in the tourney year 2...

that speaks of high standards....

oklahoma football (one of the biggest brands in all college football) is being head coached by a guy who was ecu's OC (assistant coach) like 3 years ago, who was 33 when hired (second youngest in all d1) ..big programs take risks..his offense was great potential upside

texas (richest program in the nation) hired tom herman (houstons coach), who had 2 years head coaching experience total and only 1 good year..because of the potential upside ...

usc- hired fgcu's coach for basically having a good 3 game run..becuase they wanted dunk city in usc...potential upside

big programs take risk...the sign of a great program to me isnt risk but the willingness to quickly yank the cord...and holding a standard for who is there

Actually I don't think this alleged move has anything (or at least very little) to do with not making the tourney in year 2. If Tubby had a couple of Memphis kids coming in as part of a solid recruiting class and they were still averaging 12k+ for home games I don't think Memphis even considers a change.
