Pastner was shown the door after making the AAC final. Memphis should not lower the bar for Tubby or any other coach at Memphis. There are other factors also that have been discussed previously.

If I was a Cincy or WSU fan, then I can see the appeal of keeping the Tigers mired in mediocrity. However, a powerful Memphis is in the best interest of the conference in the long run.

You seriously don't think people are against Memphis hiring Penny because they want to see Memphis suck. You've got to be smarter than that.

Hiring Penny is a monumental amateur move that borders on insanity. The only reason it is even remotely realistic is due to the horrible condition Memphis finds itself in. They tried to make the "correct hire" two times and failed. The Penny hire is like "WTF! Let's see what happens... it couldn't get any worse." And that's sad.

Wichita State did something very similar in the 90's. We had made TWO bad coaching hires, lost our minds, and hired the son of Shocker coaching legend, Gene Smithson. Randy Smithson was a star Juco coach at the time and Shocker Nation wanted to get back to the 80's so badly they thought Gene's son could take them there. It wasn't a disaster hire, but it certainly wouldn't be considered "good". He was eventually fired.

We did have a star local high school coach that badly wanted the job but we weren't going to hire a high school coach. I don't know ANYBODY with half a brain that would give a high school coach a division one coaching job, do you?

I did not mention Penny in my post. My point is the bar should not be lowered for Tubby and nothing indicates he will do better in the future other than mediocrity.
