Fans of the Cats noticed yesterday that Sophomore

Wide Receiver Jovan Witherspoon's name had disappeared from the team roster on the official web site. An official announcement from NU stated that he had left "to pursue other athletic and academic interests."

Obviously, we're disappointed in Jovan's decision," said Walker in an official statement released by NU. "He was making progress in our program, but not to the extent where he was going to be one of our top receivers this season. In light of that, Jovan wants to go another route and find a school where he can make an impact. We wish him the best and certainly hope everything works out for him."

The highly recruited 6-3 203 lb receiver had transferred to NU from Notre Dame a year ago and been #2 at Wide Out on the summer depth chart heading into Camp Kenosha.

The Cats are deep at his position, 13 additional players are listed at Wide Receiver on the official roster. However, the Cats' spread offense uses as many as 4 WR's.

Senior Jon Schweighardt, quoted by NU Sports after practice Monday commented on the number of WRs in camp; "We have about eight or nine guys that can all play. It'll be good because guys can get some rest, and we'll have fresh guys to come in and run some routes."

I didn't know Northwestern was this deep at receiver but I am not surprised because NU has always had a great passing game and good receivers. Best of luck to Jovan in future endeavors..
