In game two of Saturday's doubleheader against the Iowa Hawkeyes, Northwestern senior Ryan Bos (Barrington, Ill./Lake Zurich) threw a complete-game two-hit shutout, dominating the Hawkeye hitters. Bos threw 100 pitches, striking out six and walking two.

Bos' two biggest Ks came in the bottom of the ninth when he retired Kyle Thousand, who tripled earlier in the game, and Cliff Buckner. Bos got designated hitter Brian Bucklin to ground out to second to end the game.

NU managed just two hits in the game, but one of those two hits was a solo shot in the top of the sixth by second baseman Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted). Roeder broke the scoreless tie, blasting his second collegiate home run over the left field wall, giving NU a 1-0 lead.

Iowa's pitcher, Cory Hollenhorst, threw just 67 pitches in the game and struck out three Wildcats, but fell to 1-3.

NU's only other hit was a bunt single by left fielder Dan Pohlman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), who recorded three putouts in the field.

Bos improves to 3-5 on the year with a 2.74 ERA in 62.1 innings pitched.

The win improves NU to 19-22 overall and 10-11 in the Big Ten
