Crazy discussion.

First, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, etc have all won and won BIG in the last few years. All have had final four appearances recently and won championship in the rememberable past.

Second, Calipari has not won a conference championship, conference tournament championship, and only one NCAA tournament game in the past 5 years. And we were even worse before that.

Third, we have a cavernous arena. At 10-12,000 seating, we'd be sold out every game with lines out front.

Fourth, Calipari's decision to stay or go will NOT depend on the crowd at a December game against La Tech. Geez.

We keep doing what we're doing, and Calipari keeps recruiting like he is, we'll be the number one program this decade, he'll hit the heights of Wooden at UCLA. We make the final four this season, we'll average 17-18,000 next season. We go again next season, who knows? Is the FedExForum expandable? We have far more wonderful things to worry about than whether the coach mentions he wants more butts in the seats.

GO TIGERS!

Oops, got confused on the day. I was talking to a guy in my office trying to get tickets and can't come up with any for that day. Maybe Cal will get his wish. I think the fact that it was LA Tech played a huge factor in lower than expected turnout.

TG and photo mentioned it but MEM summed it up best.

It IS the upper level, the prices are as low as they can go $8 & $12.

I kow Chatt and the big $$ guys deserve to do what they wish with their seats but the CUSA nad NIT format was rocking.

I had upper level season tickets last year and it is awful (and dead) up there.

I had lower level seats in the tourneys and it was great, but some of us just can't afford the $5k up front to buy season tickets there.

Like MEM I'll watch at home rather than sit in the upper bowl and then travel toi Ole Ms , UAB,etc.

Cal is going to have to live with it that 13K is good for La Tech or some of our mighty conference foes, LOL.

What's different for those other programs is they have ALREADY won a national championship and always have 3-5K students at their games.

The BLUE CREW is fantastic, just have to keep growing it.

Go Tigers!

I disagree totallly. I thought the crowd looked great. I thought there were more people there last night than any game last year except the first Louisville game

i know he wants 18,000 for every game, and the team deserves it, but is simply will not happen against La Tech the week of Christmas.

We keep this rolling and by the end of january the place will be rocking for even conference games.

that said, season ticket holders need to be held accountable for not showing.

Cal wants a packed house? eliminate season ticket holders for one game and sell $20 lower bowl and $10 upper bowl for every seat in the house (minus students, blue crew, etc) and all those people that would like to come to a game (low income) will pack the joint and tear the roof off.

The lower level is already sold out at a price of AT LEAST $75 per ticket --The club level is virtually sold out at a price of AT LEAST $50 per ticket
--why would they lower prices?

The upper deck people are the ones not showing up -- what are we going to do about the skinny cats not coming to games?

well is was just hypothetical. and if you sold, for one game, general admission tickets for every seat in the house you would not believe the turnout. but just hypothetical. the season ticket holders help pay the bills for that team so i'm fine with them. but for those who want it to feel like a "college" game, it just isn't going to in an 18,500 seat building on dec 20 against la tech. no worries though...morrison and his gonzagaaaaa hippie friends will be here next week... ;-)

The size of the crowd was fine. The level of intensity was as piss poor as I can remember. As Jeb would say- it was so dead in the upper level they were selling formaldehyde at the concession stand.

I agree. It was dead up there. I like being able to cheer for the team and being more active in the game, but it is hard to do when everyone around you is quiet.

It wasn't too quiet where I was in the upper deck.

I attended with my friend, who has season tickets in section 209. We were in the 4th row up, and surrounded by some fairly loud and supportive fans.

Now, we surely weren't as loud as the Blue Crew, but we were applauding efforts made by the players, and chastizing (sp?) the officials all night. About 8 of us maintained a running commentary throughout the game.

I guess what I am saying is we didn't sit comatose in the seats like Dawn of the Dead zombies awaiting the formaldehyde transfusions. I can't speak for other upper level sections, just the first 6 rows of 209.

Other fans have opined about having a ticket resale or something to insure there is a butt in each seat for each game. How hard can this be to get done? If the corporate zealots choose to only attend the Gonzaga, Texas, Purdue, UAB, Tennessee, and Houston games - FINE! But make sure those tickets are utilized for the Louisiana Tech, Winthrop, Middle Tennessee State, Central Florida, UTEP, Southern Miss, etc. games.

The lower levels are far more crowded than the upper level---

Just like when Jerry West complained about attnedance this was a mistake --

It will add no fans to the attendance, while taking attention away from the product.

The problem was the crowd was almost in a coma. That was about as lifeless of a Tiger crowd as I have ever seen.

Even Joe Theisman and Jerry West showed up.

Can't get more wine and cheeser than that. Was Mr. "It's All Good" there tonight as well? From my upper level seats high above I can't see the celebs and rich folks in the good seats without a telescope.

i still think we should play one conference game a year in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. just one. $5 tickets, students get in free of course. Put 4000 nutso' fans in that gym and toss in a ball. just one game a year...please....

We pretty much had that at the Tad Pad. 3,000 rabid, hell raising Tiger fans in Oxford cheering on the Tigers. Then tonight we had 13,000 comatosed Tiger fans, some at times looked as though they were no longer among the living. Add on top of that one particular upper level Forum ticket Nazi and I did not enjoy the evening as much as I originally had hoped. At least there was more than one concession stand open in the upper level for a change.

that is too bad. but hey, what we have is a "corporate" team. i don't mean to disparage the tigers..i just mean that it is in fact a "big time" program and the school needs the money generated by a big arena and season tickets. so we only get 13,000. i mean what does the school want? money or people in seats? Memphis is a poor town, economically, or at least i should say not rich...you want 18,500? we can do that but it won't generate the income that 12,000 season ticket holders do, even if they don't show.

just one game in the fieldhouse..please...

With all due respect, i don't buy this "Memphis is a poor town". Granted more than one has stated this, but is Louisville or Nashville that much or any richer than Memphis? Granted there is a large lower income population in Memphis, but there is also a good number of people working and living in Memphis making very good wages: pilots with NWA, Doctors, lawyers and people in other industries having offices or facilities in Memphis. Memphis is a big enough city that attendance should not be a problem. I think it was what others stated, tuesday night and La Tech; however, Cal is right we should sell out every game. I bet UL has sold out for that crappy schedule they have at home.

As to the crowd being dead, sorry I was watching and it didn't seem that way to me. The crowd was electric when the Carney show started. I think it wasn't a consistent roar etc because 1. not much of a challenge to the Tigers and 2. A very sloppy and inconsistent game. If they play like that against the few major talent teams we have left on the schedule, we just might lose.

Get out and support those Tigers Memphians, bring a friend or two with you to the game. Talk it up at work, plan parties etc, do what ever it takes, but show the appreciation this team deserves.

i got my first perspective of sitting in the lower bowl for a tiger game last night and buddy - it is night and day different down there than it is upstairs. the crowd wasnt deafening down there (except for dorseys block on milsaps - WOW), but it wasnt the morgue-like atmosphere that it probably sounded like upstairs

the university cant lower prices upstairs - but they (and the forum) have GOT to do something to make those upper level seats more desireable. get the freaking concessions open, we've got about 200 cheer/pom members -send some of them upstairs full time. how about actually aiming a few in game promotions for the folks upstairs? some freebees only for the people that ride the escalators upstairs. the building design by default forces a feeling of detachment up there. so an EFFORT must be made to bring those folks actually INTO the building.

maybe poor is the wrong word. all i meant was that there is a segment of the memphis population that can't really go to many games and when they do they get the upper bowl tickets. that's fine. but there is a distinct difference between the crowds of games where people can buy a $20 ticket and get in the lower bowl..(cusa games, nit, etc...). those $20 tickets go to people that are fired up.

don't get me wrong, i am NOT complaining..just discussing. i am fine with the current setup although i would like to see more season ticket holders show up for the smaller games, but that is a quibble.
