Right -- that was a bit of a jinx there.

Not to play the nanny-nanny-boo-boo game, but I do think J.R. has a better chance of coming to UNC than Shaun Livingston has of going to dook. Livingston has proven more to the scouts, and he will be seen as having higher potential. All indications are that he's a definite lottery pick. I think it'll be easier for dookies to cut ties with Livingston that us with J.R. because there's still some uncertainty there.

J.R. would certainly be picked lower, but even if he's not lottery I'm not convinced he'd come here. I mean, his draft status might never be higher than it is right now. A year of playing college ball will certainly expose his weaknesses for all to see. (Although it would also be a great maturing and learning process for him, and IMO would help him in the long run.)

I don't think it's over yet with J.R. and UNC... but I also won't hold my breath about it.

Talked with Greg Doyel last night. He doesn't expect either to pull their name out. In order to keep their stock high, it is unlikely that either will attend the camp in Chicago. Therefore, being that there stocks will stay the same or rise, Greg said he doesn't see either changing his mind and pulling out.

I just read that article on DBR. Duke or UNC does all the "babysitting" and feeds these guys for a couple of years then hands the NBA team that holds their draft rights a polished product????

Only problem is how much of a distraction will it be for the college team? How much of a distraction will it be for the player himself? What if Shaun or J.R. turn out to be complete duds? Could one of these guys decide mid-season that he's had enough and he wants a new BMW and jump to the NBA?

I'm not sure I'd want a player who had already committed to the NBA.

Me neither, Doh. I like it better when these guys are focused on the task at hand -- the team they're on now. The best players don't get ahead of themselves when it comes to that. They may dream of the NBA someday, but they don't allow it to make them any less committed to their college team. If they're ready for that next step, then they oughta go ahead and make the jump. If they're not ready, they should stay in college. This having both at the same time thing isn't the answer. I can only imagine that this type of system would tend to have a lot of disinterested players in college....
