Sony's withdrawl of only SOME of their rootkit-infested CDs isn't even being fully enforced. Cary Sherman, "boss" of the RIAA, said the problem was the security hole the rootkit created, and nothing else. Sony hasn't even apologized yet.
I don't think they feel our rage yet. But hopefully that will change.
Texas has just filed class action for Sony violating the state's new anti-spyware bill. How much is Texas asking for? $100,000 per violation, where each person in the state who put the CD in their computer counts as a violation. The California class action suit has been active for a few weeks. The New York class action suit is now active, with Mark Russinovich of SysInterals (guy who first discovered and blogged it) as the expert witness against Sony. The Electronic Fronteir Foundation (EFF) has begun class action suits in multiple states.
It's not a win until Sony takes a baseball bat across the skull. They must not only suffer utter and total defeat and humiliation, but they must be beaten so badly the rest of the music industry won't DARE try this crap again. Furthermore, the message must be hammered into the RIAA's head that we won't accept this DRM bull****.
Texas State Attorney General: "Sony, don't mess with Texas computers!"
