Don't know if there is a solution to this but I figured I'd ask.
I'm running:
Xandros 3.0
Firefox
Mplayer w/ mozplugger for Firefox
Until about a week ago, I was able to play any .wmv or other media file I wanted with no problems. I signed up for CSTV All-Access and am now having some problems (only with that service, however). I've only used it to watch one live game and had no problems with that. However, I tried to play an archived game and Mplayer hung while buffering. Figuring that it was a codec problem, I apt-got codecs. A few of the files were updated. No fix, Mplayer still hung. So I used Crossover to install Windows Media Player 6.4 (meh). Went to the archived file, and WMP installed a codec, buffered and the video played (no sound, but I can live with that).
Hoping that the downloaded codec might work with Mplayer, I disabled the WMP plugin for Firefox via CXO and tried to run the video with Mplayer. No go. Mplayer hung while buffering again.
So, my question(s) is this:
1) Is the Mplayer hanging a result of a missing codec?
2) If so, is there a place to get newer codecs? I've looked and the newest package I can find is dated April '05. I installed that package when I set the computer up.
Thanks.

Mozplugger isn't the best plugin for Firefix <--> Mplayer.
Use what i do -- Mplayerplug-in.
Be sure mplayer has win32 codec pack installed as well.
I know what I said above works b/c I viewed a CSTV archival stream just a few days ago.

I'll look into that this evening.

Turns out I'm a liar. I am using mplayerplug-in (v. 2.60).

Okie dokie, 'pears that I fixed the problem (after screwing things up completely several, several times and becoming a little more than angry at myself).
Tried upgrading Mplayerplug-in - couldn't, dl'd C++, couldn't still, dl'd mozdev files, install worked but in-window streaming video didn't work (3.11 didn't read half the codecs, once it completely crashed Firefox. 2.8 would hang and was fugly in general.)
I re-reinstalled 2.6 and was just happy to have in-browser streaming video. Not being one to give up, however, I decided to fiddle with the cache size in mplayerplug-in.conf. I bumped it up to 1024 and now All Access archives work. Booyah, I reckon.
EDIT: Well, it worked once anyway. I hate computers sometimes. :bang:
In case it helps, this is what it looks like when it's hung:

Increase cache/buffers; asf files love lots of extra buffer room to assure no hiccuping. If your cache isn't enough to satisfy the buffer; it will hang. mplayerplug-in will begin playing at 25% cache fill. You're close.

Live feed was perfect yesterday. I'm sure it's a different something-or-other than archived, but still. I'll keep fiddlin' til I get it right.

If it helps; here's info on the versions of programs regarding this I have installed:
(a number with no symbols beside it indicates a stable version... any number that starts with a ~ indicates it is marked unstable due to bug reports in Gentoo)

Keep in mind that I use Gentoo. Gentoo's software manager is portage. It works like Xandros' software manager; only Xandros installs things already compiled and ready to run. Portage compiles them and installs them locally. This means I will have a few key differences in software than you:
1) I will *always* have the most recent version of anything available to install if I so choose
2) Though it takes time to install things (hours for large packages like OpenOffice on a slower machine) it runs slightly faster b/c I have setup the Linux compiler (GCC) to optimize for my hardware.

Out of curiousity and for comparisons sake, GTS, what's in your mplayerplug-in.conf? I fiddled around in there, searched around and tried various set-ups I've found with no luck.
It really isn't that big of a deal, but like I said...I just can't let it go.

Fonk it. I'm gonna be happy that the live feed works and leave it at that.
This did lead to some improvements, however. All the tinkering made mplayerplug-in run a whole heck of a lot better and it prompted me to get another 256 RAM (I was running 256. What am I, a caveman?)
Anywho, thanks for the help GTS.
