4.25 out of 5 stars....

Overall, I thought it was a very solid effort. Make believe, the 5th album from Weezer was produced by Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, new Audioslave.) If you are buying this disc for the first single, Beverly Hills", hoping to hear more of the same, save your money. If you were like me hoping that "Beverly Hills" was just a gimmick song and the rest of the album sounded more like the "Blue Album" or the "Green Album" you will be rewarded.

The songs that stood out for me were....

This is such a pity - sounds like a poppy version of a Cure song.

Hold me - starts out as a slow ballad but jumps into a "Holiday" type chorus.

Peace - has a great intro riff that continues through out the song. Also has a great melodic chorus.

Haunt you every day - Big sweeping indepth "Only in Dreams" type song to close out the album.

The only song that I really didn't dig (and it wasn't that bad) was....

We are all on drugs - has a good opening, but the rest of the song kind of melts into a "We are all on drugs" chant.

Hope that helps.....

Thanks... think I'll grab it next time I'm out at the store.

Oh, and if your blue/green statement is true, that's what I'm looking for.

Finally picked it up yesterday along with the new Foo Fighters CDs. Not a bad album at all, though I've only had a chance to listen it through once.

What the running opinion on the Foo Fighters? I think I'd like them yet have only heard what they have done for videos on MTV.

Depends on what you are looking for. Sometimes their music leaves me feeling as though it was missing something, and they rely on things like parallel eigths too much (as well as other things). I do think Groel is a very good songwriter though, and for the most part enjoy their music.

The new album is two CD's - one is heavy, regular rock, the other is lighter, more accoustical style. So far I'd give it a 7/10, but haven't listened to the second CD enough to finalize that score.
