Just curious here...and this might take a little bit of research...

What are the 5 sports teams from your school (combine men's and women's) that attract the highest attendance? This doesn't mean TV, and no pro sports, etc... this is just which sports teams at your school put the most butts in the seats?

Comparing 'em will not only show which sports are more popular in diff. regions, but also should show if any women's sports at all are able to achieve profit at most schools. (Title IX = 03-puke )

Having said all that, here are the Top 5 Razorback sports teams by attendance...

1) Football
2) Men's Basketball
3) Baseball
4) Men's Track & Field (avg. 5,300 - bet no other D-1 school comes close to that one in track)
5) Women's Gymnastics

Only 1 women's sport makes the top 5.. and with me counting cross country in with the track..that mean's only men's golf and men's tennis fell below any women's sports.

What about the rest of you?

My Highschool:

1) Football
2) Men's Basketball
3) Womens Basketball (very close to Mens Basketball)
4) Mens Lacrosse
5) Womens Lacrosse

State runner up team 2 years back for Mens Lax makes it a bit more popular

Wake Forest:

1. Men's basketball
2. Football
3. Men's soccer
4. Baseball
5. Women's hoops
6 (tie) Women's soccer & field hockey - Field hockey has higher total attendance, soccer higher avg. attendance

I included teams in 6th place because the figures are so close between #5 & #6.

I have to give a rising star award to the fans of our 3-peat National Champion Women's Field Hockey team. These folks are diehard & have definitely made themselves noticed when it comes to selecting home hosting venues for the NCAAs.

JJ - going on crowd enthusiasm & percentage of seats filled, I'd move women's volleyball above women's basketball at GT. Nothing like going to a Volleybees match!

football
men's basketball
women's basketball

After that there isn't much of a following at all. I would guess #4 and #5 to be:

baseball
women's volleyball

Louisiana Ragin Cajuns

1. Football
2. Men's basketball
3. Baseball
4. Softball
5. Women's basketball

Softball is a huge sport around here. We just hosted Arizona, the premier program of college softball, over Easter Weekend. We beat them in a regional last year to snap their 16 year run in the Women's College World Series, so the UA coach had something to prove and challenged us. We went 0-2 against them on the weekend.
