Actually, by it's very nature Linux is a rapidly changing and improving due to the fact that it is open source and anybody in the world can download it and suggest improvements. It's main flaw is that Linux Standard Base (LSB) needs to have much more sweeping domain. Since LSB isn't very strong right now, different distros of Linux can vary incredibly. This makes it much more difficult for vendors (say... nVidia... ATI... others) to completely support Linux. By having a large set of sweeping standards, hardware support from the vendor could be improved greatly.
