TUCSON, ARIZONA - Kyle Sleeth (RHP, So, Wake Forest) pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just five hits while fanning nine as the USA Baseball National Team (1-0) opened their 2002 Red, White and Blue Tour with a 5-0 victory over the Santa Barbara Foresters (14-6) Monday night at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona.
Shane Costa (OF, So, CS Fullerton) went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored, while Michael Aubrey (IF, So, Tulane) and Conor Jackson (IF, So, California) each added three hits. Team USA touched Santa Barbara starter Matt Vasquez (1-2) for all five runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings, to deal Vasquez the loss. Sleeth (1-0) walked just four to improve his personal record to 15-0 on the year, after going 14-0 for the Deamon Deacons [ <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad-flaming.gif" /> ..these guys need to learn to spell] in the ACC.
Landon Powell (C, Fr, South Carolina) got Team USA on the scoreboard in the second when he stroked a one-out triple into the corner, and came home on Costa’s sacrifice fly. Eric Patterson (IF, Fr, Georgia Tech) added an rbi-single in the fourth, as did Aubrey. Team USA broke it open with two more runs in the sixth to knock Vasquez out of the game, before John Gonzalez worked the final 2.1 frames for the Foresters.
Bob Zimmermann (RHP, So, SW Missouri State) and Chad Cordero (RHP, So, CS Fullerton) each pitched one scoreless innings of relief for the Red, White and Blue. </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
