BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A video posted Tuesday on an al-Qaida-linked Web site showed the beheading of an American civilian in Iraq and said the execution was carried out to avenge abuses of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison.

In a grisly gesture, the executioners held up the man's head for the camera.

The American identified himself on the video as Nick Berg, a 26-year-old Philadelphia native. His body was found near a highway overpass in Baghdad on Saturday, the same day he was beheaded, a U.S. official said.

The video bore the title "Abu Musab al-Zarqawi shown slaughtering an American." It was unclear whether al-Zarqawi - an associate of Osama bin Laden believed behind the wave of suicide bombings in Iraq - was shown in the video or simply ordered the execution. Al-Zarqawi also is sought in the assassination of a U.S. diplomat in Jordan in 2002.

The Bush administration said those who beheaded Berg would be hunted down and brought to justice.

The media is responsible for the blood of Nick Berg, the courts martial itself is a circus with Al Jazeera having a front row seat to MC the cerimonies. We need to shift our military strategy to a more forceful resolution. For starters we should begin dusting the mosques which are housing insurgents and terrorists. Lets take the gloves off and eliminate the enemy.

We started off the war and used decisive power. As soon as we established "control" of the government, we suddenly turned into a bunch of UNish peace keepers.

I've had it with that approach! Let's be decisive again. If you kill an American..YOU DIE, maybe not immdiately buy sooner or later, YOU DIE! If you cower in a building and take pot shots at an American. We bring in tanks and such and level the damn building. Yeh, the whole damn building! If anybody is "curious" and wants to see the video I would suggest NOT watching it. It is very disturbing. I know what you are thinking (OF COURSE IT'S DISTURBING!), but I'm pretty thick-skinned and I've seen a few things that'd make most people violently ill. I'm not bragging, it's just the way it is. I watched this video and walked away shaking.

Thanks for the warning; however, I would not have watched it anyway! I have absolutely no desire to see just how bad humans can treat other humans. It is sick, plain and simple!

The pictures released, the ones that will be soon, and the beheading WILL create the Vietnam that many don't believe that this war will be. Not only that but this modern day Holy War is spreading chaos throughout the world like wild fire. They are out of control, we are out of control....THIS ALL NEEDS TO END NOW BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!! :mad:

I am getting so sick and tired of the damn media right now... I see no reason for them to know as much as they do know, it was never like this with previous wars up to the first gulf, and maybe Vietnam. Now they have people releasing information, blowing everything way out of proportion. I have no problem with the Government refusing to hold Military press conferences, in order to let the media know what we are doing or planning on doing. The smart terroists only have to watch the 6 pm news to find out what we're going to do next, or where the troops are. Piss on the media, they can have their field days after the war is over...

Im still waiting for more stories like this, or perhaps how we are establishing medical facilities, rebuilding schools and other infrastructure, and not infrastructure we destroyed during the initial invasion last year, these are facilities that have been in disrepair or worse, for years and years. The fact is Iraqs water and power facilities are operating better than they were pre war.

That's true. Its relatively bloodless, but the site of a decapitated human head is horrific and sickening. Its more one of those mind-numbing sensations, where you sit and stare, and think, "This can't be real. I gotta be watching something from Hollywood."
