How about we add Wake Forest, and subtract Boston College?

Does anyone agree? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" />

I wouldn't mind having Miami (Fl) and/or Penn St in the ACC.

Why stop with just the Atlantic League? How can it be the best conference ever assembled if it's only on the Atlantic coast?

What we need to do is get rid of all but one NC school -- these schools are so close together that their TV markets are overlapping. Since TV revenue is really the only aspect of a conference that matters... I propose this new revamped conference, known as the "American League" (picture Mini-Me doing the quotes with his hands).

The teams:

North Carolina
Maryland
Texas
UCLA
Michigan
Miami
Washington
Kansas
Syracuse
Hawaii

This new league will have every corner of the US covered, even the small -- but integral -- Hawaiian market.

Now, how can you beat that?

What happened to the original Atlantic League thread?

It's important to be the best academic league as well as best in athletics, exposure, revenue, etc. Duke graduated over 90%, and UVA over 70%, the only ACC schools honored. Penn State and BC also graduated over 90%, and Syracuse and Miami over 70%. Duke, UVA, Syracuse, and BC, are 4 of only 6 schools nationally to be recognized 13 or more times since 1987.

<a href="http://www.hokiesports.com/football/recaps/0852002aaa.html" target="_blank">http://www.hokiesports.com/football/recaps/0852002aaa.html</a>

"Eight institutions had a graduation rate of 90 percent or better for their student-athletes, including Boston College. The Eagles are joined nationally by Duke, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Penn State, Rice, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan.

Schools in the 70 percent group are: Ball State, Central Michigan, East Carolina, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas State, Miami, Mississippi State, Southern Methodist, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Utah State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

The BIG EAST has had at least one team earn honorable mention recognition every year since the league was formed in 1991. In addition, BC has captured the national award (won by Northwestern this year) three times, with Syracuse earning the honor once. The Eagles and Orangemen are two of only six schools to be recognized 13 or more times (with at least honorable mention status) since the award expanded in 1987. The others are Duke, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Virginia."

BlueDevil: The original Atlantic League thread can be found in all its dubious glory in <a href="http://ncaabbs.com/forums/acc/boards/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=000003" target="_blank">the Archives.</a>

And there is no need to copy in the same exact post on two separate threads. Please decide what thread on which you wish to conduct your argument before hitting "paste" on numerous threads. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="rolleyes.gif" />

Thank you for playing...

Why was the original thread locked? Wake fans may not want to talk about what their school contributes or compare it to other institutions, but the Atlantic League discussion was a very popular and appropriate topic for this board.

Seriously, the thread title was locked because I believe seeing the same topics rehashed (and same arguments repasted) got old fast....

While the thread was indeed appropriate for this board, the thread's popularity (and yours) had definitely waned as evidenced by 2 quotes taken from that thread:

ClemTiger: "Do you even read other peoples post or do you just cut and paste"

Upper Deck Chevy: "No, that is not a "fact", it is an unresearched assumption that has been proven wrong several times in this very thread. But don't let that get in the way of your obvious axe-grinding "

If you continue with those methods, you will find your threads being locked again & again as you traverse these boards. I'm just giving you fair warning. Carry on...

I will be happy to discuss with you what Wake contributes and I will compare it to any institution you like. I just want to do it in person so I can stick my foot up your ass when I'm through. How's that sound?

The thread's popularity had waned? It had 150 posts and was speeding up when you locked it. Some NCSU, Clemson, and Wake, fans aren't going to like it when someone says those 3 are holding the other 6 ACC schools back, but I brought up facts about athletic and academic rankings and market size and revenue, etc. Obviously the opinions of UMD, UVA, Duke, UNC, GT, and FSU, fans are relevant when it comes to talking about whether those 6 would be better served in a new Atlantic League with Syracuse, BC, Miami, and Penn State.

Fact is, no Wake fan has ever been in favor of expansion or realignment of any kind or even the idea of free discussion of such ideas, therefore you may not be able to moderate this forum in an unbiased manner and seem to have locked the thread because you personally didn't like the topic. I'm sure many people can moderate the ACC board and keep it free from profanity and personal attacks, while discussing anything and everything related to the ACC and its schools in a mature manner. I'll do it, or maybe one of the Maryland fans who owns the board wants to since they're right in the middle of the Atlantic coast with both of the ACC's 2 biggest markets, football and basketball champs, and is the only ACC school with national titles in both major sports, I'm sure they wouldn't feel embarassed by any ACC discussion.

Actually, it would be better if I discussed the Atlantic League with fans from UMD, UVA, Duke, UNC, GT, and FSU, and Syracuse, BC, Miami, and Penn State, like natejones, terrapinone, etc., in a separate thread, that way, NCSU, Clemson, and Wake fans like Lucy don't need to worry about getting upset by the contents in any way.

3) Do you need a tissue?
