I messed up your McClure thread. I moved it and got two links. I deleted what I thought was the bad link, and deleted the good link which deleted the thread. My apologies. Rick

I still had the thread in my browser history, so if this helps, here's what was posted in that thread...

Quote: Trinity Catholic small forward David McClure has ended his recruitment by choosing the Duke Blue Devils. The 6-foot-6 wing picked Duke over Notre Dame among others. http://duke.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=192320

I am glad this kid chose Duke, he does not scare me. Sure he is a top 75 player, but now Duke has one less scholarship to offer in a class that is stocked with players better than this guy.

I know nothing about the guy, so I can't really speak on him.

But, I'm not in favor of a school's only signing top recruits. If a coach does that, it's unlikely that he will ever have any dependable seniors (or juniors, even). I think a good team must have those good upperclassmen leaders.

Personally, I like a mix of the stud athletes and dependable four-year players. And, if that's what K is doing here, then I applaud him for it.

McClure is exactly what Duke needs. He's a tough, hard nosed role player who plays good defense. He's a lot like Nate James I hear.

Hoops, you should be scared of him. Not because he's a superstar, but because his role will make other people superstars. People like Redick, Deng, Nelson, (Livingston), (Kaun), Shav, Shelden, Thompson, (Howard) will have the chance to become superstars because McClure will be doin a lot of dirty work for them (rebounds, steals, loose balls etc...)

I know you hated playing against Nate James and Chris Carawell. Well, you're gonna hate this guy. Just wait...

Don't worry about it Rick, we've got what we need here. It is amazing how Dukies can spin everything, so that in some way it is good for them.

Because McClure is only a top 75 prospect.

FWIW, he's top 50 by almost every source...

But anyway... ya know what Doh!'s problem was? He tried to get every available SUPERSTAR. He didn't recruit any role players until Reyshawn Terry.

For example... take Duke 2002... Jason Williams, Dunleavy and Boozer... all 3 All Americans... That team never had nearly the spunk the 2001 team did. Why? 2001 had role players like Duhon, James, Sanders and Battier (yes, he was a role player)

This is OUTSTANDING for Duke. I would take McClure over Dwight Howard in a landslide.
