I got an email from someone in my address book earlier today saying that I had sent them a virus via email. They sent me instructions on how to delete it...

Quote:Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but my address book has been infected with a virus. As a result, so has yours because your address was in my book. The virus is called jdbgmgr.exe. It cannot be detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus programs. It sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and address book, whether or not you send emails. The good news is it is easy to get rid of. Here's how:

1. Go to Start, Then Find or Search.

2. In Files/Folders, write the name jdbgmgr.exe

3. Be sure to search in your "C" drive (make sure to search your entire C drive) It could be in your D drive...so check

4. Click Find or Search

5. The virus has a teddy bear logo with the name jdbgmgr.exe-DO NOT OPEN

6. Right click and delete it.

7. Go to the recycle bin and delete it there also.

IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK.

P.S. If you have more than one e-mail address, don't forget to warn those on your other e-mail's address list. They need to know!

I went through steps 1-5. I saw that the file was in the Windows System directory, so I decided to check google for any possible updates before deleting it. Good thing...Per McAfee.com, this is an virus hoax. The file is actually Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java. It's a good thing I didn't delete it because deleting it could corrupt your internet browsers and possibly more.

Just wanted to give you a heads up in case anyone gets one of these warnings.
