A very interesting and telling article about the goings-on in Tallahassee from the Atl. Journal-Constitution...
Quote:After going 8-4 in 2001, Florida State coach Bobby Bowden vowed he would never stick around to watch the demise of the college football dynasty he had built.
"The only way I'll retire is if my health goes bad or we start losing four or five games a year," Bowden said. "I couldn't stand that much losing."
After Saturday's 34-24 loss to Notre Dame, Bowden, who turns 73 on Nov. 8, must do some soul-searching on both fronts. What he saw at Doak Campbell Stadium had to make him sick.
After watching his team fall to 5-3, Bowden thought his worst problem was some poorly chosen words in his postgame news conference. Bowden was trying to make the point that Notre Dame has beaten everybody the same way -- with a defense that forces turnovers.
"They're serial killers. They kill everybody the same way," Bowden said.
After the press conference, school officials distributed a statement from Bowden, apologizing for the analogy, given the recent shootings in the Washington area.
When Bowden returned to his locker room, things went from bad to worse as he found a team in turmoil. Defensive end Alonzo Jackson had gone on a postgame tirade against his teammates.
"You know what's wrong!" he shouted at them, but he wouldn't elaborate when asked by reporters.
Jackson later apologized to Bowden for losing his composure, but Jackson wasn't the only Seminole who was upset. Florida State's players were stunned that they lost to Notre Dame and were starting to point fingers.
"I know we need to make changes. You [the media] know we need to make changes. Even my little 3-year-old niece can see that we need to make some changes," defensive tackle Darnell Docket said. "And we need to make them in a hurry before this gets really ugly. Man, we'll be lucky to beat Wake Forest they way we're playing right now."
One of those possible changes, and one Bowden admitted he would consider, is at quarterback, where Chris Rix continues to struggle. Rix had three of Florida State's four turnovers and gave way to sophomore Adrian McPherson, who led the Seminoles to a pair of late touchdowns.
What Bowden must face is that for the first time in his memory, he has a team that is starting to come apart at the seams. The offense and defense are blaming each other, and they all are pointing to the coaching staff.

Its not the end...
They still have recruits coming in, and will for at least the next 5 years...
It'll be a while before they go terribly wrong and lose 5-6 games in a season...
