This play is actually assigned for my English 301 class, as well as several other english classes on campus. I don't know if they're actually talking about it in English 101 classes...but I know that my stepdaughter is going to talk about it in her colluquium (sp?) for her college park scholars stuff. So basically...it is getting discussed in classes throughout the campus.

I was curious to see what all the to-do was about, so I sat down and read it a couple of weeks ago. From what I saw of it, it's basically saying that hate of any kind is wrong. It was all about tolerance. Sure...it didn't cast the killers or Fred Phelps in the best light...but then...Phelp's people were outside of Matt's funeral with signs reading "God hates fags" and "Matthew is burning in hell"(or something very similar). It actually made me cry, though I don't honestly know if it was because of the story or because of the fear it engendered in me for my little brother...but it was a very, very sad tale.

The point is...those people hate it because while it doesn't "glorify" homosexuality, it paints it as okay. BTW...did you guys realize that the people that are going to be protesting outside the theater where the play is being performed is a group that is lead by Fred Phelps' son?

Sorry for the long meandering post...but I just think it's silly that there is such a big to-do about it. God forbid that we teach tolerance.
