Credit cards are dangerous. I got into trouble with them many years ago. I have one now. There is a zero balance on it at the end of each month. I bet I get 2 offers for new cards every day.

Rickheel-
If you hate getting all those offers, call 1-800-5OPT-OUT and you will be removed from all kinds of lists. Tha list is legit and maintained by the credit reporting agencies. The volume of offers I am receiving has fallen from 1-2 a week from 1-2 a day.

P.S. My husband is a bankruptcy attorney, AKA paranoid about debt. Our mortgage is the only debt he will ever feel comfortable with and he's constantly working at whittling that down. I guess it comes with the business. You wouldn't believe the stuff he's seen. Some people are just plain stupid. Others have legitimate problems. Luckily I'm ultra-conservative when it comes to spending, too, so it's not an issue in our house.
Sorry so long,

My dad worked for Beneficial Finance Corp., and he always told me "Never pay interest, except for a mortgage" I have bought 4 cars over the years by saving up for them and paying in full at purchase. I have 6 credit cards. Don't use one at all. I am about to cancel the Visa as I do not need it anymore. Have about 1 charge a month on it.
I have a mastercard that I use only for on-line and phone purchases, so that if there is a questionable charge, I know where it came from. So far, so good. I use my check card a lot. Very handy, and if you do not have the cash, you will be told. I always seem to have what I need and have never been in debt, even in some very lean years. Thanks, Dad.

One Visa Checkcard and one MasterCard. That's as much as I will go. No need for anything else right now (and I barely use the MasterCard as it is).

Are you sure we're not sisters? LOL My dad actually doesn't even like mortgages. We've been able to buy 3 cars for cash so far. I'm still saving for my Jag XK8. Someday, sigh. Unfortunately, college tuition plans come first because I also believe in giving your kids a leg up so they don't start out in debt.
