According to ESPN's rankings, the current Top 5 BCS standings would look like this:

1. Miami
2. Florida State
3. Notre Dame
4. Virginia Tech
5. Oklahoma

No Texas, which is always a good thing, but that's a little too much hype for the Irish IMO.

Of course, BCS standings don't mean a thing in September, but still...

One reason why I-A football, to me, has lost its luster. Everything comes down to the dollar. I've been screaming for a I-A playoff system for years, but the presidents constantly shoot it down. As far as Notre Dame goes, as a practicing Catholic, I'm glad to see the team doing well. Not that religion and football should mix, but I do want them to win. Thank God for Ty Willingham. But yes, the BCS is one big screwup. They've been VERY lucky to have had it work so far for them, albeit flawed. Miami-Nebraska? Oregon should've been in that game. Same in 2000, when FSU played Oklahoma AFTER losing to Miami. Thank God I-AA has a playoff system. My 2 cents-GO CATS!!

Seriously, WTF does ND have to do to impress you?

They have beat three ranked teams already.

ND looks like a top ten team to me. They've certainley earned a spot in it.

Top 10? - Yes. I agree, they look like a top 10 team (considering who they've beat, not by how they have won those games).

BUT, #3 in the "unofficial" BCS standings? No way. Not yet, at least. Down the line if they beat FSU, then I'll believe they're that good.

Keep in mind that quality wins and SOS are a huge component in those BCS standings. There isn't another team in the country that can lay claim to 3 wins over ranked teams.

If ND runs the table, they will be in the Fiesta Bowl (even if there are more than two undefeated teams, which is a strong possibility this year)...and even if they only stumble against FSU, they will still make it to a BCS bowl...no one plays a tougher schedule year in, year out, and that pays off in the end...hell, they might even make the BCS Four with two losses...

While I am glad to see ND "back", I dont know if they are a top 5 team. Their offense is suspect at best, and their defense has kept them in games. After seeing what Texas did to us, I cannot understand why they are not top 5. It is all moot anyway, as who could beat Miami anyhow!

N.D. has had a good start, the Michigan win was huge, but Maryland and Michigan State are hardly top 25 worthy teams, they were preseason ranked teams which doesn't mean jack, N.D. is by no way a top 5 team, they are not even a top 10 team. The season will play out and the Irish will suffer multiple defeats and probably lose another bowl game. The BCS really is worthless and only causes more controversy. It ruined the Rose Bowl last season!
