Dook's 2002 Schedule...
8/31 vs. East Carolina
9/7 vs. Louisville
9/14 @ Northwestern
9/21 @ Florida State
9/28 @ Navy
10/5 vs. Virginia
10/12 @ Wake Forest
10/19 @ North Carolina State
10/26 vs. Maryland
11/2 vs. Clemson
11/16 @ Georgia Tech
11/23 vs. North Carolina

No gimmies in that schedule...look out Dookies, it could be 36 losses in a row

The games I think we can win:

Navy
Northwestern
ECU (a bit of a longshot, but a fair chance)
Wake Forest
Louisville

I see us winning two of those games, and surprising one other team, thus getting 2 wins. We definately should be able to beat Navy, and the other four we could beat. I think we have the potential to upset a UVA or NCSU on the right day. Don't laugh at the possibility of 3 wins, I believe it will happen. We also have 1 more game next year than last year.

I was comparing their versatility, just in case you didn't get that.

Don't count Wake as a gimmie game. They have improved incredibly under Jim Grobe. They won at UVA and came back from about a 25 point defecit to win at UNC last year. Plus they nearly upset Clemson and Tech.

Duke vs. Wake is no longer the Tidy Bowl. Duke vs. Navy.....now that's another story

I'm not considering Wake a gimmie team. I just think that we have a realistic chance at beating them.

Dunleavy is a shooter, nothing more, he doesnt have a defensive presense, no post game nothing but a smooth shot, just because he is 6'9 and he can shoot doesnt mean he is versatile. For people to really believe that Dunlady is versatile is a joke really. If you wanted to compare him to someone who is really versatile how about a young Kordell Stewart or if you really wanted to compare him to a basketball player how about Jared Jefferies.

This is the first good football thread we've had in a long time.

Wake is going to kill Duke. We barely beat them this year, they whooped up on UNC in the second half, and played great games against almost every top ACC opponent. They aren't losing that much either.

OTOH..you have Duke which got spanked by every team in the ACC. Whether they get better or not, Wake should handle Duke easily.

I applaud nate and Big Case for sticking up for their team though. Try and be a little more realistic.

Navy is the only game you have a chance of winning this year. Sorry.

You are highly under rating Dunleavy. He pulls down 7 rebounds a game and gets a lot of steals down low. He's taken some charges this year, too. He has a very good pull up shot, also. One thing I can agree with you on is that he needs some more post moves, and could use even more added weight to bang. Otherwise, to be 6'9"-10", able to shoot long threes, have a silky smooth pull up, pull down 7 rebounds and take charges is what I call versatility.

We ended up losing by either 1 or 2 touchdowns, hardly a spanking. We held our own against GT, too, IIRC. I don't remember what happened with UVA, but I think it was respectable. I will look it up later.

But, I know for a fact we were tied with Wake late in that game after making a remarkable comeback.

Check that, my mistake.

Duke lost by 21 to GTech. I remember it being close at halftime, that's probably why I thought it was close. We did score 31 against Clemson. Not that it's any consolation to losing by 28, but at least we were scoring. We lost to Wake by 1 TD.

It was a rainy homecoming and about 3,000 Duke fans showed up. I think Tech led 17-13 at the half before pulling away and winning 37-13.

Duke trailed Wake 28-0 at the half and 35-7 in the 3rd quarter before storming back to tie it at 35 in the 4th. Wake scored on their next possesion and that was it.

Defense killed the Devils last year. They allowed less than 31 points only once (a 15-13 loss to Rice). In their other games, they allowed 31, 37, 42, 42, 44, 52, 55, 55, 59, 59

We had a good offense going there. Mike Hart was stellar (should be a fairly high draft pick) and Chris Douglas is someone you expect to see at FSU or Clemson, not Duke. D Bryant had some great games, he just didn't get much help from the other side of the ball.

Our defensive line was absolute pitiful. Alex Green was a great safety, but our corners were pretty bad. If the rest of the team was like out LBs, we would have a great defense. Too bad it's not, though.

BTW, forgot to mention this, but the transfer QB at Rutgers has been turning some heads big time. His name is Chris Dapolito, and he was supposed to be good at Rutgers, except, IIRC, the coach's son took his spot.

If you haven't been able to tell yet, I am a die hard Duke football junkie/fan. I can name every player in Duke's recruiting class from last year at the drop of a hat.
