have any of you considered the possibility that attacking iraq in the first place is a bad idea with or without austrailia?

I considered it...and then I came to my senses. There is no reason for Saddamn Hussein being allowed to dictate the political climate of the middle east any longer.

Techfan,

Are you kidding?

Almost all of the weapons used in the middle east crisis are from... take a WILD GUESS! We give somewhere between 4-5 billion dollars a year to Israel.

If we went to war with the whole middle east (Israel, Palistine, Saudi, Yemen, Oman, Iraq, Iran) we would win.

Australia isn't as much of a military value, but more of a political value. For instance, we can use them to help gain Britain's support.

"Join us and Australia" sounds better than "Join us".

Plus, I'm sure they can help with some things.

we don't need Australia to get Britain, Tony Blair is already on top of the ball. And I for one wouldn't want to go to war with the entire middle east on our own...if we do, BAKED and I are moving to Canada <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Militarily, we would we evetually prevail, but the reprecussions (sp?) would be absolutely horrible!!!

A flat out ground war against Iraq would result in the losses of US and other countries' troops, and the deaths of countless Iraqi citizens.

Now, I'm for an invasion of Iraq in a more covert fashion, one where fox news and cnn are not at the headlines, and one which there is a better chance of reducing losses on each side.

I know what you mean about Saddam, LK, what are your thoughts on the claims that Iraq has somehow been enabled to create nuclear weapons? No one's been able to produce anything that's taken those claims from "man the lifeboat" on the BS meter for me.

Unfortunately, the middle east has a tactic of war that we can't, or at least don't want to, compete with, and that is terrorism. Like an article in Time said "Can we stop the next 9/11?" The answer is no.

Would we win? Yes. Would it be tons more brutal than if we had Britain, China, and various other european countries? Yes

But techfan, US > middle east

SSJT, I don't think anyone is really in favor of sending in ground troops until necessary.

Cruise Missiles, when working correctly, are our best bet, IMO, and would minimilize the deaths of civilians.

The only thing that worries me is attacking, not getting rid of the Hussein admin, and just pissing them, Al Qieda (or however the hell you spell it) and other terrorist groups pissed off even more.

I do have confidence that we could get rid of Saddam if that was in the playbook.

BTW, was the "we can't assasinate other political leaders" law appealed yet?

SSJT - If India and Pakistan can build nukes, I have no doubt that Iraq can and has built them.

yes, but for Iraq to successfully build a nuke -- they need huge areas, not some small facility in the caves. They need materials that are only accessible from companies and people who are not members of Al Qaeda or supporters of Iraq.

We don't even know if Al Qaeda has these huge insiders in the Iraqi government.

If weapons inspectors can't find anything, then there really is no way to prove Iraq has a nuke.

If they did have nuclear power, they would have used it by now.

The solution is to keep weapons inspectors going in there alot more frequentley. will it happen? dont know

action needs to be taken, but all foreign governments against iraq seriousley need to evaluate the situation.

The main reason I doubt your theory, SSJT is because Saddam always acts like he has something to hide. Whether it's bio weapons or nukes, he's DEFINITELY up to something, and if he doesn't cooperate... **** is going down.

You're right, you're right --- he has something to hide. I don't think its nuclear weaponry, but it's something.

It definitely could be, oh, say, a small amount of materials for building a nuke -- even if he's light years away from successfully creating one. That's the most plausible situation.

It might just be blue prints of a nuke, or manuscript of a conversation is regards to getting a nuke, etc.... If he doesn't have a nuke right now, I think he's definately at the market for one. And who knows when he'll get one and use it? That's why I think this issue is so pressing.

I'm confident we're not in imminent danger ourselves, but I think the ones who have the most to worry about are Iraqi citizens.

The ones who Saddamn isn't afraid to kill, just to keep other governments off his back.
