LK, who do you think could coach this group of crybabies?

Like I said before, it's obvious that Karl is a terrible coach. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="rolleyes.gif" />

I mean, when judging a coach's abilities, would you rate him on how he performs with his own team... or how he does when you give him a couple of weeks to prepare with a bunch of hodgepodge NBA "stars" who care more about stomping other players and whining to the refs than actually playing for the pride of their country?

I highly doubt any coach could have done much better with this group....

Can anyone find a box score for the game last night. Look at rebounding and second chance points. That is all desire, not coaching. Look at shot selection. That is piss poor shooting, not coaching. I know you dont care for Karl because he is a Carolina grad, but you really are letting your hatred get in the way here.

If this was any coach other than a UNC alum you guys would be all over his ass.

He didn't coach these guys to play as a team.

John Thompson bore the responsibility for the debacle in 88 which ultimately led to the use of pro players.

The fact that Karl happens to be a UNC alum is incidental and not related to his abilities as a coach, which absolutely sucked major league ass for the past few weeks.

I heard reports that we just lost to another team in this Championship. Is that true?

If you're talking about Yugoslavia, then yes.

It's true that Karl has not shined this week. But, he wasn't exactly given the best team to work with either. The truth about his coach abilities this week is likely somewhere between where the two of us have him rated.

You mentioned that the performance in '88 led to the use of pro players -- now that we've seen the result of our teams' deteriorating into second-tier NBA players, perhaps we'll start putting up our best players again.

Our second and third tier players are still better than any foreign team....if properly coached.

Depends on the players.

If you get a lot of guys who are stars on substandard teams -- and not leaders at all (and I would think of none of these players as true "leaders") -- then I doubt anyone can do much with that.

I think we would have been better served to go with some more experience rather than try to go with a strictly young and athletic (and thus, unproven) group of players.

I really dont think that coaching in that type of situation makes any difference at all. You have a bunch of pro players out there dicking around thinking they can turn it on at any time. I think Vladi and his guys had 19 second chance points. They outrebounded our guys by a bunch. That is all about hustle and desire. You cannot coach that. I think Karl is a good coach. I think NBA players are inmates running the asylum. It is not about Karl in my book. It is about the attitude of the players. Bunch of spoiled millionaires.
