MBV produced one of my all time favorite albums period (notice my avatar ;-) . Loveless I would petition is flawless. However, some of Kevin Shields other work I would say is spotty. So yea, I guess you could say hit or miss. I will say that it took me a long time to come around to them. Initially, I couldnt get past the production and the vocals, bass, and drums being mixed so low, etc. I came to realize it was all entirely intentional and threw out my preconcieved notions of what production should sound like. It was then I could accept it for what it was- one of the greatest album on the 90's and one of the finest ever (IMO). This review sums up my feelings on it:

"My Bloody Valentine's entire career has been aiming toward the perfect guitar noise that Kevin Shields has in his head: a pure, warm, androgynous but deeply sexual rush of sound. Loveless is overwhelming, with Shields and Bilinda Butcher's guitars and voices blending into each other until they become a distant orchestra, the rhythm section striding in majestic lockstep, and occasional bursts of dance rhythms (as on the single "Soon") buoying the live instruments' warp and drift. Furiously loud but seductive rather than aggressive, the album flows like a lava stream from one track into another, subsuming everything in the mix into its blissful roar, and pulsing like a lover's body. --Douglas Wolk"

The only other band I really like on there is BSS. You Forgot It In The People is staggeringly great. The new one, not so much so.
