Anyone up for TU basketball talk?
I know it's the way offseason and TU football will be here a couple of months before basketball but since TU basketball is my favorite sport I like to talk about it anytime.
I hated to see Jamel McLean transfer as he had a lot of talent and, in my opinion, could have been a big piece of the puzzle for us. However it's not worth crying over spilled milk and we still have some quality players on the team. I'm looking forward to seeing what Earls and McDade can do as seniors and Walls was really coming into his own at the end of the season. If Brett can play with the confidence we saw at the end of his sophomore season and Calvin can find a shot within 5 feet of the basket we should have some quality leadership next year.
Add to the mix Ben Uzoh, assuming he's healthy, Mark Hill, Sam Mitchell, Ray Reese, and a returning Bishop Wheatley and I think we have a great mix of players.
The league looks like it will be improved this coming season so if teams other than Memphis can collect some quality OOC scalps a top-4 finish should mean a shot at post-season play and a top-3 finish should at least put us on the NCAA bubble.

Sounds like a great overview, I love to watch Uzoh play. I can see him being a leader in one more year. especially during the OU game last season, nobody was hitting anything, we couldnt even get to the rim, he was the only player able to even sniff the basket from the paint. He was by far (IMO) the most talented kid on the floor that day. He displayed some wicked moves in the SMU game also. I cant wait until next year.

I agree with you, Uzoh had some of the best moves I've seen from a freshman in a TU uniform, right up there with Shea. One thing I hope he works on though is quickness. Several times last year he made a steal and had a breakaway only to slow down and get caught before putting it in the hole. If he could maintain his speed all the way to the basket he would really be something.
I should have also mentioned Jerome Jordan in my initial post. He is still raw but has some offensive moves and a real nose for the basket. If he can work on and improve his positioning and add a little weight over the offseason he could be a real force in the middle for us in coming seasons.

your right, "Speed". that is one word that definitly lost us some games last season. i was getting tired of seeing these easy shots getting knocked away.
