The 2008 Presidential Election should be a SINGLE issue election, in my opinion.
Immigration.
Period. End of list of problems to handle for the next 4 years. Let’s not muddy the water with anything else. Sure, terrorism is an issue. But we’ve had almost 7 years now to re-adjust to this new world reality. Let’s put it aside, just for now.
The issue of what is “America” all about and what it means to be an American needs to be addressed with no flinching, and brutal honesty. The more I read about the border, and illegals, and the political parties jockeying with proposals, the more it makes me sick.
This shouldn’t be too hard. Try to follow…
1. We have a porous southern border, and millions of illegal immigrants flooding this country every year. This is not good.
2. The first step in addressing this problem is to SECURE THE BORDER!
3. Once we’ve stopped the leaky pipe in America’s basement, we can then address how we “clean up” the messy details of those who are currently here illegally.
Closing the southern border is most important goal of the next 20 years. More important than the moon landing, or the Cuban Missile crisis.
And it shouldn't be hard. It's simple manpower, money, and bricks.
Sadly, it also takes a tanker truck of real political courage from our reps in Washington, and we know they don't have that. We know their type: spineless and willing to sell out for their next re-election.
To say that Bush’s proposal that sank like a rock was insulting to many conservatives like me, is an understatement. Statements by Trent Lott like “talk radio is running America, we need to handle that problem” are flat out scary.
What now, Hugo Chavez Lott? Sorry that ordinary citizens Trent are voicing their rage at government ignoring the people’s wishes.
I don’t have any firm belief about what to do with current illegal aliens, but I would sure like to hear every Presidential candidate lay out their thoughts. I do believe that without illegal workers, the cost of a lot of things would go up dramatically. I also believe some industries would suffer shortages of labor. I also believe that many illegal immigrants are hard working, law abiding, and crucially productive elements of our economy.
But still, its disturbing how little immigrants are integrating and ‘buying in’ to the American dream. Are we asking too much for Hispanics to be able to find a DVD under drama in an English only labeled section at Best Buy?
We are indeed, becoming balkanized. It’s a flat out disgrace. Read this about recent “identity group” graduation ceremonies from UCLA in the City Paper.
“But the core reason for separatist graduations is the obvious one: on campus, assimilation is a hostile force, the domestic version of American imperialism. On many campuses, identity-group training begins with separate freshman orientation programs for nonwhites, who arrive earlier and are encouraged to bond before the first Caucasian freshmen arrive. Some schools have separate orientations for gays as well. Administrations tend to foster separatism by arguing that bias is everywhere, justifying double standards that favor identity groups.”
More proof of the point. America's left are hell bent on destroying the country. They sow seeds of discord, and then make empty political promises to right the very wrongs they've created.
Excuse me while I vomit in my mouth.
If the coming election was ALL about one thing ONLY: national policy on all things immigration and assimilation, would you really be upset? The future fate of this great country is literally at stake.
I am not optimistic. Sorry for the rant. Tomorrow, back to sports.
