If MT is having/had a bad year, I admit that we may not be very good and deal with it. Having said that, I have to say that I don't see Memphis winning this game. I could be wrong. We do have an untested QB, but looking at our record last year and Memphis' record last year, I just don't see you guys winning. I would put our abilites on the same level as UAB, maybe a bit better. MT wins this one by a touchdown. We lost some games last year badly, but in the same games, I don't see the Tigers doing any better. Our defense is very good for a Non BCS team. My prediction:

MT 24

Memphis 17

I hope the MTSU football team and its fans do judge the Tigers this season by last year's record. When the game clock hits goose eggs, we shall see which fans will be sorely disappointed.
+1

RE: Middle Tennessee @ Memphis
just a few points....

"You are playing one of the top teams in the conference, not the bottom dwellers."

MT has 1 D-1 bowl and you guys somehow own the Belt...recent history says UNT is the team to beat.

"Your wins against ASU aren't impressive and they beat you last year...The rest of your wins have came against the same team: ASU. Several wins against ASU is not a pattern of Sunbelt dominance."

WTF? ASU hadn't beaten us in 18 YEARS...they were due a win, and it STILL took a hail mary to beat us.

ASU isn't the only belt team we play...

we stand at:

9-4 against UL-L
16-4 against North Texas
4-1 against Troy

"Your only really significant win in the past 5 years was against UNT in 2003."

they were the conference champ...

"So, in 2003, you beat them by 22, we beat them by 10. In 2004 you beat them by 12, we beat them by 28. In 2006, you lost 23-26, we beat them by 28, in Joneboro. You guys really haven't played anyone in the Sunbelt besides ASU."

you should know that the "i beat this team by this many, and you beat them by this many" logic never holds up...

and ASU isn't the only belt team we play...

"Like I stated earlier: If our QB stinks, we may lose this game, but if he's even decent, we will win. If he's good, you guys lose big time"

you have NO, and i mean NO idea what is going to happen in this years game...there's a reason we play the games.

"Unless, you have some sort of coaching change, or a you had a lot of freshmen las year, etc."

see what i mean...you lack info...YES TO BOTH OF THOSE.

"Like I said, I'm not talking smack, just evaluating your team vs common opponents and record against similar talent."

that's not a true evaluation...and you lack specific details that you would need to base a true objective opinion on.

this will be settled on the field...

Go Tigers!!!

We are talking about the last year, not "history." UNT hasn't been relavent to the Sunbelt in two years.

WTF? ASU hadn't beaten us in 18 YEARS...they were due a win, and it STILL took a hail mary to beat us.

ASU isn't the only belt team we play...

we stand at:

9-4 against UL-L
16-4 against North Texas
4-1 against Troy

Are any of those games against other Sunbelt teams in the last, 3-5 years? If so, that may point to a pattern. Games against Sunbelt teams before the 2000 aren't really relavent. I'm talking about current games and current stats. The scores I quoted were from recent games.

they were the conference champ...

Yes, 4 years ago when you beat them the conference was still fairly new. Troy, MT, ASU, ULL and ULM are much better now. That's why UNT has been a bottom dweller in the conference the last couple of years.

you should know that the "i beat this team by this many, and you beat them by this many" logic never holds up...

It does in the same year, against the same opponent.

you have NO, and i mean NO idea what is going to happen in this years game...there's a reason we play the games.

I'm not saying it's certain. I am saying what is probable.

see what i mean...you lack info...YES TO BOTH OF THOSE.

Yes, I lack SOME info. That's whay I stated that I wasn't absolutely certain about outcome. I qualified my statements in the end. Even with the new info, I still say: If we have a QB, you guys lose.

that's not a true evaluation...and you lack specific details that you would need to base a true objective opinion on.

I wouldn't say that the info I've baed my opinion on is lacking or biased.

this will be settled on the field...

Yes, it will and I have no doubt that you guys could win this game. I just don't think you will. You are basing your opinion of Sunbelt teams on games played years ago. This conference is MUCH better than it was even three years ago. There is a reason we went 4-3 vs Conf USA last year. There is a reason that UL beat Houston (Your conference champ) last year (UL was 5th in the Sunbelt last year BTW).

Good luck to the Memphis Tigers.

I'm not talking smack. I haven't called anyone a "biotch" or some other name lol. I'm just stating the facts as they are. The fact is the Sunbelt is a better conference than before and Memphis is struggling. Past performance against teams from decades ago is not good data. You guys are basically 3-1 vs the Sunbelt since 2003 playing two different Sunbelt teams. Most of your wins came when the conference wasn't as good as it is now. All Sunbelt teams (besides FIU and FAU) have added a lot of depth and talent since 2001...even since 2004. It won't be long and we will see if I'm wrong.

Nice "just the facts" statement there. It seems to apply to most teams.

Nope, we retain all our coaches from last season. We just suck. You've really done your homework.

Nice "just the facts" statement there. It seems to apply to most teams.

I'm saying that we are particularly vulnerable at the QB position. Even more so than usual. I guess I could have stated that "we have no proven quality depth at QB" or "Our starting QB is our only hope. We have no backup QB that can hope to fill in as a starter." There, how's that? BTW That statement had nothing to do with the numerous other facts that I pointed out. You can't use your play against ASU as a measuring stick and in the next breath state that "common opponents" mean nothing, but we beat UNT one year and you didn't. Either your play against ASU is significant, and ours as well, or neither is. MT has proven to be more effective against the Sunbelt over the past three years than Memphis has, especially last year. We hammered ASU and UNT. Either way, you are cherry picking my statements. I gave numerous examples of the flaws in your logic. I gave another in this response. Ignore the flaws in your logic. Don't admit what is clear. Creat your own reality. Whatever makes you feel better, but the fact is that Memphis has not shown any more ability against the Sunbelt in the last few years than MT has. However, the Sunbelt confernece record last year (as I pointed out) against Conf USA does seem to indicate that the Sunbelt is at least almost as good overall in football.

glad to hear from the raider fans. the main reason i like this series and the ones against ole ms and asu is they are easy road games. this will help improve our attendance and makes for a fun road trip. every road conference game we play is an overnighter most are two nighters.
i expect all of these games to be good ones, and i always expect the tigers to win. i am a red blooded american whose veins are striped blue and gray.
come on over to memphis raider fans bring bus loads, stay the night, scrape the cows**t off your boots and get down with a little blues, or get funky with some r&b, dance some salsa, or kick back with some rock and roll. this series should be a fun one and i hope it earns an extension. gotigersgo

Thanks. Most MT students do their partying in Nashville, so there is no need to "scrape the cow Sh#t off" of our boots. I will enjoy seeing Memphis again and going to the Liberty Bowl for the first time. I never fault a person for thinking their team is going to win. I think mine will win. You think yours is going to win. That's the way it should be. Either way, we won't feed the poor or cure cancer etc, so I try and not take these things too seriously. It's just a football game. Good luck in the game.

Interesting that you left off one Sun Belt team, MTSU. We lead the series 12-7-1. Any knowledgeable fan would tell you that this stat doesn't mean a thing because we haven't played in several years...and I would agree. Just like your records against UL-L, North Texas, and Troy don't mean a thing.

I know you can't really compare common opponents either, but in the same years you have played ASU we have also played ASU. We have beat them by a larger margin than you over that time period, for whatever that's worth.

I agree with the one poster who said this series makes sense, if for no other reason, it is an easy drive for a road trip. I expect MT to bring a good crowd and I expect Memphis to do the same when we play in Murfreesboro. I think this will create an exciting atmosphere.

At first I wasn't too happy about this series, but after thinking about it. I believe it's good for Nashville area pub (in both sports)
and
I believe that after Ole Miss it'll be our most attended homegame of the year, so how bad can it be? Maybe 40k

I think that's too arrogant an opinion. Memphis isn't that good, and Middle is not that bad. In fact, I would not be surprised if Middle is the favorite.
