RE: question about the giants
NFL First overall picks the last 15 seasons

Mario Williams - too early to tell
Alex Smith - has shown promise but still too early
Eli Manning - still early but is looking like a bust to me
Carson Palmer - legit superstar
David Carr- bust
Michael Vick - debatable but I would probably lean towards bust especially given the past 2-3 months
Courtney Brown - bust
Tim Couch - bust
Peyton Manning - HOF
Orlando Pace - all time great
Keyshaun Johnson - debatable, but most would probably consider him a bust
Ki-jana Carter - bust
Dan Wilkinson - bust
Drew Bledsoe - decent
Steve Emtman - LOL bust

Out of the past 15 number 1s:
6 have been legitimate busts
4 have had decent careers but for the most part never lived up to number 1 expectations
3 are superstars
the other 2, it is too early to tell

So, you pretty much have a 20-30% success rate, not worth tanking if you ask me.

It'd sure be a lot easier and safer than having a great draft pick. Unfortunately, as i've tried to explain to you, Giants management is only proficient at scouting young pitching. It's too bad you argue without listening to the other person.

If you read my post you would realize that was the main reason I used to explain why it is pointless to tank. FREE AGENCY

RE: question about the giants
good point (see i'm willing to concede sometimes). As a fan, i would still rather have a top 5 pick than a 20-25. It's much more fun.

BTW, i've been watching the devil rays game today. My mouth waters when i see the insane amounts of talent they've stockpiled. I want the Giants to combine their 90 mil payroll, with some top 10 picks. If we were to sign a decent free agent, we'd be at risk of losing a top 45 pick.

You'd consider keyshawn and bledsoe bust and decent, respectively? Keyshawn hasn't been a HOFer, but he's had a good career, same with bledsoe.

but that makes no sense. With the increased revenue in baseball, ownership has begun giving longer contracts and quick extensions to their best players. Perfect examples are ichiro and eric byrnes, two guys who would've been heavily coveted and useful free agents. Would you suggest the giants sign the aging andruw jones and thus lose two high draft picks? Or maybe torii hunter in his walk year? I'll take my chances with eugenio velez (our AA center fielder).

Free agency is definitely not the best way to build a team. Another thing your average GM would tell you is, free agency is most useful when used to put you over the top, not to build a team. You'll probably bring up trading, to which i'd say, with enough homegrown talent you can make a ton of great trades (ex. john schuerholz). Though I'd rather the Giants not try to trade (see stupidity of sabean).
