That's why your screen name is "flyingswoosh", right? 03-wink

lol, great point. i've actually had that as my email address and screen name for 10 years and just never changed it. believe it or not, i used to wear all nike. that's the only thing i'd wear. it was pretty pathetic. So yes, i did go through a brand loyalty stage in my life.

I voted Zune w/ my pocketbook today.

Got the 80gb model @ Circuit City and with purchase you get a FREE $20 gift card! 04-rock ...which can be used to purchase accessories for it 03-weeping

But I must say... you can the WHOLE ACCESSOIE PACKAGE FOR $100 the set includes AC Charger, DC Charger, dock cradle, extra sync cable, AV cables, and remote.

I'll have impressions up later on.... I'm currently getting it set up with my computer.

RE: Zune vs Ipod
Aftger 2 1/2 dasy with the Zune I have a few thoughts.

I like the picture storage thing.

I like the ease of putting my tunes on it.

OPeration is pretty self explanitory.

Pretty intuitive menu system

Feels pretty solid

Screen is pretty nice.

************

A few things I didn't like

I fiogured the unit would sort cd's like Windows Media Player does. It doesn't, it bases artist sorting on artist per tune not per cd. And the cd's come up alphabetically so you can't go artist>alubum > song ...its artist>song OR album>song

Instruction manual ...there isn't anyone per se.... its all contact info and safety percautions for the unit. YOu hook it up to your PC and download the software it uses.

No Bass Boost

No Power button (dedicated). YOu Hold down play button to power on/off.

The "free" songs and pictures they give you when you "install it". I still haven't found out how to erase them off.

RE: Zune vs Ipod
I cant stand iTunes. First it wouldn't work with daemon tools. So I uninstalled it as the apple site suggests. Still no dice, reinstall it. nope still doesnt work. That and it is ******* slow, and I mean ******* slow. 5+ minutes to add all my music gg, winamp takes like 5seconds. This was buying music from iTunes store and trying to burn to a cd. So I have to copy the music to my powerbook, and activate it there, just so i can burn a cd.

Anyway, as for iPod. Dad got a video one last Christmas. We plug it in, hey guess what, it locks up. After googling how to reset the pos we try again. Oh good, it works now. Copy some music and it plays.

The "doesn't work like a hd" sort of pisses me off. Since I rip a lot of my music from the internet radio i don't get a lot of the tags. So the "sort by artist/type/ect" fails hardcore. But I can goto my /music folder and everything is organized there.

If you get a touch, sure cover flow is nice, up until you've added the 30th cd, then it is a PITA. My friend has one, yea... she reverted back to the normal search.

I've never used a Zune though. But of the like 2 people i know with em they like em.

No,... not really ... I like it.... just was expecting a interface akin to Windows Media Player for sorting... I mean it works....and I am not dissappointed in the purchase.

amex reward points. yeayea had to spend money to get em, but when you get reimbursed for that it turns into free 03-razz

Anyway, got it the other day, opened it today.

Inserted the disc, failed to install the first time. No support for 64bit XP (vista 64bit works). If I paid money for either I'd be pissed, but whatever. Vbox ftw. Doing the 'hack', which is pretty much just copy a file from point a (x86 os) to point b(64bit os).

Comes with music on the zune, recharges through USB. Sound quality is good.

http://www.zunescene.com/comparison/ I'd use this site as a size comparison only. the other info is sort of biased 03-razz I'm just too lazy to find the ipod in the back of my trunk to take a picture.

I'll edit my post after I get the software installed.

RE: Zune vs Ipod
WEll I got a case for my Zune as a present today!!

Also...if anyone is getting a Zune and you can find the "old" home kits for it that WERE $100 they are now bing discontinued @ $70! THey work w/ all the Zune models. Slight cosmetics change from the old model (that I bought @ $70) vs the new one @ $100. Unless $30 for not too big of a change cosmetics-wise matters to you save the money...they both do the same thing.

Although i must say the fit is TIGHT...REAL TIGHT.

And it says on the new dock suppourst component video output to a HDTV... but it looks to me that is more of a function of the Zune and not the dock itself since it you have to buy the component cable seperately.

The only bad thing about my discounted pack was the watch battery for the remote was DOA...had to go to Wal Mart to get a new one.

Overall I enjoy the zune. Put shooter on it pretty easily. Looks good. Kind of disapointed windows xp64 bit doesnt work... but itunes wont even burn a cd with it so oh well. vista/vista 64/xp/mce are all supported though.

one thing that I do love > ipod. It is square. some people may not like that, because it isnt 'stylish'. But i am all for function over form. and it allows me to put it on its side on my desk so i can watch a movie and work at the computer at the same time. something i like with my n800 as well.

You use REAL head phones or the pod ones they give you? (GOD I hate ear bud headphones!

Do you like that it has no bass boost?

Have you tried using the component cabels for it to watch anything on tv?

Currently using the ones it came with. Ill order some other ones when I see a pair on sale. My roommate has a nice pair of bud ones. They came with different 'bud' pieces that you size to your ear.

The acoustic setting does a nice job of producing bass. Testing through my computer speakers because I cant find my sennheiser ones. Sound quality is slightly less than that through my creative SB X-Fi, with less bass as well. But it is enjoyable overall.

I need some sort of adapter to display on tv.
Quote:If you have the Zune 30 - it's not DVD quality. Now if you have the Zune 80 and encode the video in 720x480 then yes, it will be in DVD quality but you'll need the Zune Dock to display it as such.
