Define Japanese or American. My wide drives a "Japanese" car built in Ohio and I drive a GM car built outside of the U.S.

Toyota's are the best non-luxury car (Lexus, Infiniti, etc.).

If you want the best bang for the buck, there is no car in the world that can touch a Corvette. Better engineering, faster, handles better, and it is 1/3 the price of comparable cars from Ferrarri, Mazzerati, Porsche, etc. ALL of the aforemention competitors moved down from GT1 to GT2 in ALMS racing because there was no way in the world for them to even compete with a C6R.

Geez, the guy just wants a used car and you have taken it to all new levels, and spelling wife as "wide" is freudian to the max.

Litterbox,
Consumer Reports annual car issue (Apr 08) rates the best & worst used cars and is based on their own survey.

Vehicles are listed by price range, best of the best, best for fuel economy and best for teenagers, and they even list cars to avoid. I highly recommend it as a good starting point for making your decision. It's at the library or I will be happy to scan and email a copy of the used car section in .pdf or .jpg format. Just PM me if you would like a copy

If you are looking for a really well made and fun to drive low priced used vehicle, I recommend the Mazda 3. I bought the SP3 version for my offspring three years ago & it drives like a sports car costing thousands more & we've had '0' issues.

If you are looking for something more expensive, you can't beat the late model Infinitys or the Acuras.

Dan, you are correct. However, one can buy a used C5 at a price that will surprise you.

the real question isn't foriegn or domestic. the real question is "What are your goals for the car?" for example, if TCO over the life of a car is the driving force, then buy a 5 year old beater. If one wants a really fun car to drive, a used C5 can't be beat. If one wants a used car with lots of snob appeal, a Beamer 325i can't be beat. It all depends on one's goals.

American cars are crap. I'll never buy American again.

Besides, the foreign cars are being made in America now, so that whole "Buy American" doesn't hold much water anymore.

The engineering is better.

Did you know that the 2003 -- 2006 Monte Carlo by Chevrolet has a better relaiability record than any car built by Honda?

I'd buy American trucks, but for cars; Honda or Toyota if you weren't going for a luxury vehicle.
