John C. Dvorak on Macs
I was listening to This Week in Tech, and this lovely little exchange occured:

- "Apple sales aren't that great worldwide, they're too expensive I think."
- John C Dvorak: "Well the thing we're overlooking is that the rest of the world especially the Asian communities their IQ is alot higher and they don't have trouble using a computer so they don't necessarily need a Macintosh"

John ftw!

And apparently your Minnesota education didn't help your reading IQ... reread his post.

Maybe I didn't understand. I thought Dvorak was saying we have lower IQs than Asians, I don't agree with that. I don't get what I don't understand? 03-banghead

RE: John C. Dvorak on Macs
So linux's lack of consumer popularity vs windows must mean that linux is either:
1) Too difficult to use.
2) ******

I mean, what other reasons could it be since it definitely isn't price. And no one uses mac because "It is too expensive". So shall we go with #2?

Anyway, I sent you an IM few hours ago, but I'm looking for a laptop. I want something 'portable' as in, no 15" screen, 12-13 should be fine. I'd want a major manufacturer, So thinking, Dell/Lenovo/Apple. I had bad luck with HP/Compaq/Toshiba so i stay away from those.

Lenova X61 is their smallish laptop. After getting:
2.4ghz
2gb ram
+N network card
160gb hd
+3 year warrantly (3 year total)
it comes to ~1408 (+160 for live chat which comes with apple care, but i don't need it really)
~1325 after student discounts

Apple Macbook:
2.4
160gb hd
+3yr warranty
~1550
~1382 after student discounts

Dell xps m1330
same crap
~1480 (via small business)
~1700 (via Higher education page)

Now, the lenovo is cheapest, but also doesnt have a CD Drive. So for 50$ for a portable and it is close to the apple. Also, it isn't exactly 'fair' to 'upgrade' to the apple, as upgrades cost a lot specially through the site. But, apple hardware is pretty much the same as other places, and isn't all that more expensive. Now, yes, apple doesnt have 'huge discounts' but lenovo/dell will have like 500$ off sometimes during the year. Regardless, buying an apple allows you to use Linux, windows, OS X.
