Question I want to upgrade my PC video capabilities, How best to do this?
I want to be able to watch internet broadcasted games on my PC. Not a big PC gamer though. I use my Macbook Pro for games. I want to be able to watch games on my monitor and/or HDMI TV and/or HDMI projector.
Since I live here everything I buy needs to be over the internet, and there is no good go to person here. So I am asking your help.

I have been given a Gateway computer with a Pentium 4, 3 GHz , I will have 3GB of RAM. I doubt it has an enhanced power supply.

What I want to buy is a new monitor =/>20", and I need a new video card.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what type/brand of these I should buy.

The research I have done has led me to a AR GEforce 8800gts 512mb 256GDDR3 video card. I am thinking about an 20" Apple Cinema Display.

My Budget is about $800.00.

Thanks to any and all who help me with this. I figure others are thinking about upgrading too.

You SURE you need a new video card?

Most laptops are simply impossible to upgrade the video card. Most TVs have a hard time accepting computer-style resolutions. If your TV can work with 1024x768 out from your computer, it's got a decent video adapter in it.

Anyways, video output and display is NOT a very graphics card intensive task. Even my Pentium III 800 Mhz Thinkpad can push out 1024x768 to a TV, and it has a 8 MB AGP 2x ProSavage III graphics card... which is about as underpowered as you can get. Just make sure you get yourself a TV/monitor that can handle computer-level resolutions. Even some HD displays can get cranky. If you find a TV with a VGA or DVI input ... you're probably in business.

Thanks GTS. It is a desktop I am doing this for. [I did not make that clear]
I am anticipating hooking this up on Sunday mornings [here] during the season to my new Bravia TV==>
"HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide superb image and sound reproduction. BRAVIA V-Series TVs include (3) HDMI 1080/60p inputs. The PC input 4(HD-15-pin) offers easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA V-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor."

No, I am NOT sure I need a new video card. Which is why I came to the experts here. I did not know if I would need a special connector to my TV/Projector other than the one to just connect another monitor. I thought for that I would need a new video card for outputs to the TV/ Projector. I thought I may need enhanced power to make the game show larger on the TV/Projector.
Human innards I know. Computer innards I don't.
