Kelo v. New London, Three Years Later
Quote:http://www.ij.org/publications/liberty/2..._08_g.html
... will highlight the fact that, like so many other projects that use eminent domain and rely on massive public subsidies, the Fort Trumbull project has so far been a major debacle. Close to three years after the Court’s decision, no new construction has taken place in the area, and the developer, desperate to obtain financing, has even applied to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to receive taxpayer-backed loans to build luxury rental housing. So far, more than $78 million in taxpayer funds have been spent on the project with nothing to show for it but brown, empty fields.
It's sad that the ruling which destroyed the federal right of private property was made to benefit an apparently worthless plan. Three years, $78 million, numerous families displaced, and nothing to show for it.

If the whole thing wasn't so pathetic, it would be funny. The developer and government should be forced to pay big money to the landowners whose land they stole, just for being stupid.

Oh yeah...What do you think the odds of getting the very gang of thugs who stole the private property from these people to own up to actually harming them?.....Just how much more of this type of BS are Americans going to bend over and take?....and without even a kiss:bean:

Although the government was stupid, some of the thugs are business owners - the very people whom you seem to think are able to run everything on their own just fine. They had a hand in this too.

Oh..no doubt..There will always be unethical businessmen..but... This type of thing can only happen in a statist paradigm. In a free market..with no government and only "private" property...Force could not be used to steal someones property. The property owner would have to be negotiated with in order to purchase his property. If he chose not to sell...well.. too bad. The guns of government are to blame for allowing unvirtuous businessmen to steal.
