Hot rumor in Minneapolis
My brother is a radio reporter in San Francisco and has covered both the Democratic and Republican conventions. He just posted on his blog that the hot rumor going around the grounds of the convention is that Joe Lieberman will announce he is switching to the Republican party tonight.

Lieberman's ongoing campaigning for McCain is the reason I don't think the Democrats can win Florida. It was a dead heat in 2000 but Bush-Cheney beat Kerry-Edwards by 3 percent in 2004. That's one of the swing states I think the Republicans will win in 2008.

I've been busy watching one incredible speaker after another trot onto stage in St. Paul. The Iraq Marine vet was particularly good.

I don't think Obama ever had a chance in Florida. It was always one of H.R.C's biggest talking points.

McCain has had Joe's endorsement since 12/07. Why would his switching parties give a bump?

One of the most effective speeches in the 2004 convention was by another 'Democrat', Zell Miller. McCain could really use an impact performance like that from Lieberman tonight.

This is the second convention in a row a dem or former dem (who still caucuses with them) have given speeches in support of the republican.

Did any republicans speak at the DNC?

Former Rep. Jim Leach (R - Iowa) spoke on opening night.

Thanks, though I've never heard of him. Lieberman speaking is much more momentus from a historical standpoint.

I remember in 2004 the dems had Ron Reagan Jr. speak, as if that was going to get them any conservative votes.

A republican did the official nomination of Obama at the convention. Though I know nothing about him.

They don't call him "Zig Zag Zell" for nothing. This guy has reinvented himself more than Madonna.
