Let's go Niners!

I have posted here. I have made it official. This dead board has been given new life. Now I will go back to NN.N with the rest of the Niner fans. That is all!

We have reached the $4 million mark in funding and have fewer than 1900 FSLs left.

Things are looking good for getting the go ahead for initial construction allocation for the Football Center and to begin the search for a head coach. That should be approved at the upcoming Board of Trustees meeting in December.

GO NINERS!

Alex Smith better hope AC Arron Curry updated his rabies shots, cause he's gonna take a big wet bite out of his a$#. D- is gonna be fired up baby, Heater Hawthorne gonna inflict pain on Gore, he's gonna be hurtin so bad his RB's coach is gonna feel it. Singetary is going to be forced to show his carring nurtering side sunday, he's gonna be nursing Vernon Davis' ego after he takes a big hit from Lawer Milloy. Defense is out for blood on sunday. Matt Hasselbeck going to be in a rythm early, they run the spread offense throw some slants in the mix finally, i hope. Forsett/Jones combo, with the line coming together gonna hit for 170 rushing yards. GO HAWKS 37-17 SEAHAWKS.

Wow. I'm impressed. Sure wish UAB had a board of trustees like y'all got...You should have heard what our BOT did to us when they were approached about a 30,000 on campus football stadium.

RE: 49ers Getting Football!
I'm curious as to how everything fell into place and that the process of getting state of the art facilities such as this appeared to go so smoothly. Is there anyone here that can share some insight on how Charlotte was so successful in this endeavor? Pending congratulations, by the way.

Timeline might help here:

2005 - Charlotte is booted from CUSA to A10 because of lack of football. Most of us assume if we'd had football then we'd have had a good chance of moving to the BE because of our basketball record in CUSA.
2006 - The Charlotte Football Initiative (CFI) is formed, by a group of message board posters (fans and students). They begin taking "pledges" of financial support on their website.
2007 - CFI student members are elected to SB President and VP at UNC Charlotte
- UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees agrees to form a Football Feasibility Committee. Outgoing BoT Chairman and former Wachovia VP Mac Everett is chosen to lead the committee.
- Student vote is held online for whether students would support student fee increases to finance football. Over 8000 (largest student turnout in UNC System student government vote history) and 1/3rd of the student body. Over 80% vote for fees of over $100 per semester increase.
- After 9 months of deliberations the Football Feasibility Committee unanimously recommends starting football with the goal of moving to FBS ASAP.
- Chancellor Dubois then launches his on 9 month review of the committee's recommendation.
- CFI and SGA then organize a "March to the End Zone" rally. About 2500 show up and at the end the Chancellor addressed the crowd.
2008 - Chancellor Dubois recommends to the Board of Trustees that Charlotte start football.
- The BoT votes unanimously to add football.
- University begins selling seat licenses.
2009 - BoT get together and donate $1.5 million toward football, which along with $4.2 million in FSL revenue puts us over the $5M goal set for the program to proceed.
2010 - The System Board of Governors approves adding the bonds to finance Charlotte's football stadium construction toward the UNC System budget proposal.
- The state legislature passes the 2011 state budget including the UNC System's budget.
- Governor Purdue signs the bill into law.
April 30, 2011 - We break ground on our stadium.

Incredible to have that kind of support on so many levels. Thank you so much for sharing this information. As "Hannibal Smith" used to say, "I love it when a plan comes together."And what a plan it was.

I'm glad you guys were successful in getting the football program up and running and a new stadium on top of it. Again, thank you and welcome back to Conference USA, & I hope that the 49'ers & their fans enjoy immense success in all sports. Really appreciate this insight.

RE: 49ers Getting Football!
What's the seating capacity going to be on your new stadium? Has it been given a name yet?

No name for the whole stadium, yet. The field is McColl-Richardson Field (after Hugh McColl, former CEO of Bank of America, and Jerry Richardson, owner of the Panthers, donated the money) and the fieldhouse is Halton Fieldhouse (after Dale Halton, the former President and CEO of Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. who has paid for many things on our campus with the library and the basketball arena named after her among other things). Still looking for the full naming rights if you feel like donating!

The stadium is slated to originally have 15k permanent seats with some temporary seating expected to bring it to 20-25k (from what I've heard). The speed of expansion will be driven by demand. If you're interested in seeing the stadium, this is the construction cam: http://oxblue.com/open/rodgersbuilders/charlotte49ers

Hope that's helpful.

No problem, thanks for showing the interest! We're looking forward to playing you guys, too! For future reference, this board isn't checked much- I'd either put the question on the main board (lots of Niners there) or post it on our ninernation.net message board. That's our main lurking area for pure Niner sports.
