Rice Alum Named President of American Atheists
This is a week or so old, but Dr. Ed Buckner (B.A., English, Rice University, 1967) was named president of American Atheists - the organization founded and headed by Madeleine Murry O'Hair.

I remember Ed. He was in my class at Rice and also in my section at hanszen. I didn't know him well and had no idea that he was an atheist (or professor, for that matter).

I figured there would be some who knew him. There's a bunch of his writing on the net if you google him...

For a few years Rice's most well-known alumnus was Alberto Gonzales, who as Attorney General seemed to stand for the theory that man (or at least government) is not bound by law.

Now we have an alumnus who is a national spokesman for the theory that man is not bound by God either.

One might wonder if unleavened "critical thinking" leads to too much critique and not enough thinking.

Certainly. Only an unthinking fool would doubt His existence.
