What is more important?
If you were (and maybe some of you are) a musical artist, what would matter more to you?

1. Commercial Success
2. Critical Acclaim
3. Personal Satisfaction with your work

RE: What is more important?
I choose invisible option number 4- doing what i love for a living. Traveling in a beat up van instead of a 9-5. Going to work would consist of playing Saskatoon and Omaha. Being able to live myself at the end of the day, knowing the minuscule crowd loved my show. Being away so long, you missed a former worker's friend's child's graduation. Away with the trivial day to day activities. Everyday would be a new adventure. Sounds romantic eh?

Isn't that #3. Personal satisfaction in your work?

I think I pick #1, #3 and don't give a damn about #2. The reason I pick #1 first is that at the end of the day making music is still a job and why do I currently do my job? Because I get paid. Enjoying your work would be a bonus, but even if I had to play music that I didn't like, you would still be bringing home a paycheck.

Believe me I would, if I:

-had talent/ musical aspirations
-a band
-a van

Yeah, I guess it is- per your first statement in that post.

So you'd be cool with selling out?

What do you do with your life now? Would it be considered selling out? Just playing devils advocate...

Yes I absolutely do. I finally graduated, but I'm still working the same retail gig I had when I first started school. So considering what I believe in, if I were to continue to follow through in this line of work, I'd consider myself a sell out and feel guilty about it. But I'm gonna get another job, hopefully won't have to get a real job for awhile- Peace Corp, teaching English abroad. But when I do get a real job, sure I'll have to sacrifice a few things, namely taking time off, but I hope I go to bed at night being able to live with myself. If I was making sh!t music just for the sake of making money, I'd don't think I'd be willing to compromise that. Of course dollars aren't being thrown in my face.
