DAYUM! CONGRATULATIONS! 04-cheers 04-cheers 04-cheers

I tried out for Warrant Officer, 153A Rotary Wing Aviator, back in '96. Passed everything, including the AFAST and Psych Eval, for the libs that are wondering, but failed the BP. I was initially high, so I was ordered on a 3-Day, Twice a day BP check. After 3 days it averaged 143/80. 140/80 was the max. I said I'd quit smoking and come back in 6 months, which I would have as I would have LOVED to have been a pilot, but he said I was permanently DQ'd. Why? I established a history of high BP. WTF? When? When he ordered me on that damn 3-day, twice a day.

....but I couldn't imagine having the privilege of flying one of the fixed-wings. A Cessna's about the closest thing I'll ever come to it, and I still, after 3 years, have yet to take my check ride.

I wouldn't have minded being a military pilot, myself. It would have been much safer than jumping out of the plane, into a hot LZ, with Charlie on all sides...

I wasn't even born in the first year posted and was only a year old in the second.

But you might want to update the guys at Global Security. They don't have any combat jumps entered between any of those years.

What's the patch under the master parachutist badge?

Also, do you know anything about the Chemical corps? My best friend at school branched that this fall and doesn't really want to talk about it, but it sounds like a pretty crappy job.

CMB, Combat Medics Badge. Frank was an 18D, Special Forces Medic. I don't know anything about the Chemical Corps, other than just about ever unit at battalion level or higher has a 54B (or whatever it changed to), Chemical Operations Specialist. It's just like any other job in the military. You train on what you specialize in. Kinda funny, our 54B was a good friend of mine who went to SFAS, got selected, tried out for 18D, and I don't think he passed. Probably an 18B now. Now, if your friend is an Chemical officer, chances are he'll be assigned to a chemical unit and get to play with cool things like the Fox. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/s.../m93a1.htm

RE: I'm going to...
Congrats! I wanted to fly too and had an appointment to the AFA, subject to passing the physical. I failed because I was too tall, too heavy and color deficient (aka color blind - actually don't see reds and greens well). Sucked because the only military academy I qualified for was the merchant marine academy and I couldn't see myself hunched over in a ship. Army and Navy both washed me out over the color blindness bit too.

So much for the football staffs at the various academies that recruited me until the physical was taken - they all presumed that high school coaches inflated heights and weights in the program, but mine understated both for the linemen on my high school team because even understated we listed bigger than anybody we'd play (we were taller and heavier than the Dallas Cowboys line that year). It was pretty funny to see teams who had prepared all week expecting to see big linemen, only to encounter even bigger linemen. Good psych games played there!

So much for memories - congrats again!

The Yellow/Red/White/Black oval patch? I thought the CMB was under the CIB?

Ohhhh, I misread. That's a background trimming for Airborne wings authorized for units on jump status. See his beret flash.
