I haven't been to Europe (Germany mostly) since 2000, when the US$ was much stronger and the Euro hadn't taken hold.

From what I remember-
-In Germany look for any town that is having a festival. Somebody's bound to have one every weekend. Since you'll miss Oktoberfest, these provide a good opportunity to try some great food and beer.
-Prague was wicked cheap and a ton of fun.
-Paris wasn't as cheap, but had more to do.
-Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice, The Vatican) was great, but expensive.
-Spain was a great, beach destination. While I was overseas it was a toss-up with Greece for a warm getaway.

My advice would be to get a good travel book that's specific to the town in which you're interested. The pre-packaged tours are too rushed and cookie-cutter.

Above all, take advantage of the weekends and "do" things.

If you're a fan of beer, give Cask Ales a shot while in England. I've never been to the UK, but my first stop will be at a local pub if I get the chance.

I left Germany in '76, when the mark was worth a quarter. The machines in the barracks used to take quarters or marks, and didn't distinguish between 'em. Not anymore...

My dad lives in London half the year. It is rainy and wet and anyone who told you differently has never been to London. He likes staying in the country though more mostly Gloucester. It's very expensive over there. A good Cheeseburger and some Fries with a drink at a restaurant will cost you about $30-40. Most people commute to London for work because it is so expensive. Are you living in London or outside of? The best thing about Europe is of course weekend trips to see everything; Stonehenge, Paris (great street markets but again, rude people.) Taking a ferry across the English Channel, My dad says Normandy is his favorite spot to go. When he's in France, he goes at dawn and he says it's very Eerie how the fog rises from the ocean. If you're into architecture at all- Europe is where you want to be.

The people in Paris aren't rude if you can speak with a Parisian accent. They are very particular about the way in which the language is mangled by foreigners in Paris...

It's not a problem in the country, or in the south of France. But Parisians are rather stuck up, especially where language is concerned...
