OPEC cuts 2.2 M BPD
At fist they announced 4.2 but that was from September's number. Oil still falls. We should now throw the everything at them. Do what Republican's want to do. The alternatives that Democrats want to. Manhattan Project time for alternatives.

Because of the reduction in low mpg vehicles?
Anyway, some folks are speculating that oil prices are headed back up.

Well, to be honest it was more of an off-hand comment, but if I think it through.....
Yes for sure a reduction in the availability of lower MPG vehicles.
But I think more of a re-thinking of driving habits, vehicle buying patterns and some supply and demand issues - there would be a hell of a lot of drivers out of work, at least for a while.
The elimination of one or all American auto icons might also encourage another shift / change in driving populations, just like the housing market has changed home ownership patterns.
Certainly I believe a Big Three bankruptcy will impact short term the global supply and demand for oil. Less cars, less driving, less need for oil.

Screw OPEC. America lost lives defending Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and instead of picking up the tab for their defense they slap us in the face. Greedy camel humpers..... And don't get me started with our pal Hugo.

That's already happened.
Quote:Driving in America has undergone its most dramatic continuous decline in history, the Department of Transportation said Friday.
Americans drove 100 billion fewer miles during the 12-month period between November 2007 and October 2008 compared with the prior year,

Let's hope it sticks
Quote:In October, driving volume posted its steepest monthly drop since 1971, according to the DOT. Americans drove 3.5% less, or 8.9 billion fewer miles, compared with October 2007.
Quote:People who began to take public transit in 2007 with the rise of higher gas prices are sticking with it now that prices have dropped back down to their lowest level since early 2005, Townsend said.
Overall, the use of public transit is up 6.5 percent in the third quarter of this year, the largest ridership increase in 25 years, according to the American Public Transportation Association.
In addition to more people using public transit to get to work, fewer people have jobs to go to, also leading to a reduction in driving, Townsend said.
