I was pleased, but not that surprised, to see such a glowing evaluation of DeLo. He served notice with that key INT-TD against Rutgers in '06. It's easy to overrate your own guys, but I see someone who just knows how to play DB, has the requisite size and instincts, and will pass the measureables test when that time comes as well. He's been a leader on his team, and every NFL team needs a couple guys like him to excel on special teams and grow into a regular spot in the defense. I think he'll have every bit as successful career as Mickens does.

It will be nice to see this class of Bearcats make their way into pro ball and start spreading the UC name and reputation that way. The legacy of this year's senior class isn't fully written yet.

RE: Draft prospects for DeAngelo Smith
This one will surprise you then GK. It's from ESPN's Draft Buzz on the Top 5 prospects who's stock is falling by Todd McShay and Scouts, Inc. from back on Dec. 5

Quote:4. Cincinnati DB DeAngelo Smith
Don't be fooled by Smith's 12 career interceptions. He's not the instinctive playmaker that stat would lead some to believe. In fact, Smith might struggle to find a niche in the NFL. He lacks the size of a safety, the recovery speed to consistently hold up on in island and the recognition skills of a Cover 2-style corner. The more tape we study of Smith the less we like his chances of being drafted in the first three rounds.

Ole Miss OT Oher, Georgia LB Ellerbe among prospects whose stock is falling

I don't know who is right, but I prefer the SN analysis.

Well, no analysis surprises me, one way or the other. I don't have much opinion on when Smith will be drafted - first three rounds or not. It only takes one team to like you. I just believe he'll have a nice career.

According to Mel Kiper (ESPN Insiders that you're not supposed to tell anyone else), Mike Mickens is number 10 at his position and overall number 89 in the draft. DeAngelo Smith is number 14 at same position and overall number 133 in the draft. Malcolm Jenkins (tO$U) is number 1/5 and Vontae Davis (Illinois) is 2/13. FYI, Darius Butler of UConn is 9/70.

Boy....I'm just not seeing that with Jenkins....not at all. He's a good db, don't get me wrong but #1?????????? hahahah....we'll see. I mean, the man played in the Big Televen....three runs and a punt usually so how good did he really have to be??????? I'd like to see his ranking in a pass happy conference like the Pac10 etc. Just my thoughts....

Just to throw another perspective in there fwiw, PFW also has Jenkins as the #1 SR CB (as of 12/20). Perhaps a bit more surprisingly, the #3 Sr CB is DeLo while Underwood is #7 and Mickens is #9 (with Butler sandwiched between them at #8.)
