I seem to remember a thread that had pictures of all of these alternate jersey's at the start of the season. One of them was the purple and orange fed-ex jersey...

Are you insinuating that I suck? Or that I still blame Richard Jewel? Either way, your face sucks.

Actually I'd like to see us wear the old 73 uniforms with the script Memphis.

They wont even let BOSSMAN sell the damn jerseys to us. No way will they allow the team to wear anything with "memphis state" on them

Now I hope they would bring back the script Memphis, but with the darker shade blue not that light color they used with the Finch throwback. If you are going to do throwbacks do it authenic

I think that the point was that the '73 jerseys said Memphis and not Memphis State.

I know , I just wanted to vent my frustration on Bob the idiot Winn or whoever else said no to the old "memphis state" jerseys

That would confuse Bobby Knight even more. He mistakenly referred to us as Memphis State the other night, though I know he knew better, some people remember us that way. Seeing Memphis State on tv would really be confusing to a certain group of people.

special permission has to be granted and it's rumored to be the next HOME game.

Do you really think that Cal would have us wear ANYTHING orange?

There are going to be ALOT of really suprised/upset people when they see us wear these uniforms. It is happening so be prepared.

I personally think they will be ugly as hell but have no problem with it seeing as how we would be nowhere without FedEx. People can say what they want about us whoring ourselves out or whatever you want to call it but it is my understanding that this is more of a big "Thank You" to FedEx and the group of FedEx executives that have been bankrolling Tiger athletics, especially Tiger Basketball for the past 8-10 years. There might be a better way to say thank you but I dont fault the university one bit for trying something outrageous(which this will definately be) in order to get some attention for our main sponsor in order to keep them from jumping ship now that the economy is in the crapper. Bottom line is that if FedEx and their executives start cutting money, Memphis is in bad shape.

Nobody said anything about logos or sponsorships. Just a different color scheme that ironically is the same as FedEx.

As for the return on their investment everytime we are announced at FedEx Forum, check out the TSF website. Gave 3 million for baseball to be FedEx Field.

:uberbow: and let me say this...if you have a problem with the basketball program/team honoring Fed-Ex by wearing their colors for one freakin game than please just don't watch it and if you have tickets please just give them to someone that would enjoy watching our tigers no matter what color they are wearing. Evidently the average fans doesn't realize the impact Fed-Ex has on the University of Memphis. I hope someone that has some concrete numbers can enlighten all of us....you just might be very surprised. Personally, I love the idea and am behind it if Cal and the team are ok with it. It's just ONE game folks !

MissJ concrete financial figures would be great. Fred Smith and Mike Rose were the founders to RC's Ambassador Club which is minimum 500K. Who knows what their total donation amount is now and it should not be public, but definately would open some eyes. Many other FedEx employees/execs are certainly donators. Like I said earlier 3 million for baseball and Ambassador, that is 3.5M publicly known.

Couldnt have said it better myself. I don't know if this is the place for anyone to start putting out dollar figurs because as I understand it, alot of the money that has come from FedEx is from the group of FedEx Execs that are members of the Ambassador Club. I know there are at least 4 individuals from FedEx in that club. What people don't realize is that when projects like Finch Center renovations(how many times has that been now?), the softball stadium, the Athletic Office building expansion(previously and in thefuture with the Hall of Fame), the football practice complex, football weight room, and more than likely a few others that I'm leaving off, are put on the drawing board, the Ambassador's Club is the first place the University goes asking for money. So don't kid yourselves into thinking that a great deal of what has happened at the U of M in the past decade isnt a direct result of FedEx and FedEx's employees stepping up to the plate and cutting checks because it most definately is.

Then there is also the $3 million for baseball and I'm sure a good bit of sponsorship purchases and corporate ticket purchases over the years. It all adds up very quickly to some very big $$$. If this is how the university wants to thank them, its fine by me. Wouldnt be my first choice but definately fine by me and hopefully the rest of our fanbase as well.

Just my opinion here, but I think the negative backlash publicly from the national media and privately from other universities will be off the chart. I certainly can appreciate what FedEx has done for us and have no problem showing gratitude in some form, but this - again only my opinion - would be a bad idea.

Now, if FedEx wanted to change their corporate colors to blue and gray, I wouldn't have a problem wearing their colors on our uniforms.
